Thank you to our Woodlea crews who spent the entirety of Fathers Day responding to two fires in the region today, rather than with their families - Woodlea responded to 4 fire calls in the last 72 hours resulting in almost 20 hours on the fire ground volunteered and some very tired people heading into work first thing tomorrow morning! Crews left the station at 9am this morning and have only just finished truck checks and refills so our trucks are prepped and ready for the next job. Thank you to our Woodlea members for your commitment to protecting our community 🔥

⛔️⛔️⛔️ FIRE BAN ⛔️⛔️⛔️ for the Lockyer Valley commencing from midnight tonight - given the heightened bushfire risk and the significant bushfire events the area has already experienced in the last 48 hours. This means absolutely no campfires, hazard reduction burns (even if you have a permit, the ban still applies), and more - for further details see QFD’s post below.

When predicted conditions and hot, dry and windy weather forecasts show that fires may be difficult to control and may harm the community, the Queensland Fire Department might declare a local fire ban.

Big thank you to the Woodlea members who gave their time to attend the Gatton Kindy Bikeathon over the weekend with the Gatton urbans. This was the start of a very busy weekend for Woodlea who responded to a grassfire in the Tenthill area early hours of Sunday morning, followed up by the grassfire at Laidley later that day.

Weekends like these demonstrate the versatility of our members - while most are enjoying their weekend to rest before the next work week, our members are still engaging with our community and responding to emergencies 24/7 🔥

Woodlea welcomed some new members to training last night, which was a good opportunity to take things back to basics and go over truck setups, pumps, and an intro to the different methods of filling the truck water tanks. Some newer members got to practice burnover procedure, with more experienced members working under the pump (no pun intended) by responding to complete the procedure in full within 60 seconds 🔥 🔥 🔥

Woodlea RFB took part in Operation Get Unstuck today alongside our neighbouring brigades across the Somerset Lockyer region - some scenic off road tracks and practical challenges to build our skills, collaboration and confidence!

In true RFS fashion, Woodlea and a number of other crews did depart for a slight intermission during the day to respond to a grassfire in the nearby area for a permit that got away, which accounts for the lack of photos to capture the day 🚨 💛
