Australian Army Band This is the official page for the The Australian Army Band.

The Australian Army Band is made up of 11 separate bands, both regular and reserve, located all around Australia. Army bands can be found in each capital city as well as in Wagga Wagga, Townsville and Newcastle. The Australian Army Band is tasked with maintaining Esprit De Corps among troops, as well as engaging with the community, and being the public face of the Army. Bands contribute directly to the wellbeing of the Army and the community through participation in Military ceremonies and parades, Regal, Vice-Regal, Federal, State and Territory Government ceremonial functions, music education programs, concerts and community activities.

Remembering a mate, colleague and musician.

Today we pause to remember Musician Hayden Dare, one year on from his sudden passing.

Hayden’s dedication, professionalism and passion for music left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His talent, humour and unwavering commitment to those around him forged friendships and memories that continue to be cherished across the Army music community.

As we reflect on his service and celebrate his life, we honour the legacy he leaves behind through the people he inspired and the music he shared.

Forever remembered. Forever missed.

🎺Leading from the front: New Drum Majors Qualified 🥁

Congratulations to Sergeant Peta Van Bekkum, and Corporals Aaron Passfield and Nathan Moore on successfully completing the Drum Major’s Course at Gallipoli Barracks, Brisbane, from 12th to 15th October.

Under the expert instruction of Regimental Sergeant Major, Warrant Officer Class One Gary Caira, the members developed the skills and knowledge required to perform the important role of a Drum Major and lead a military marching band with confidence and precision. The course concluded with formal assessments conducted by Command Warrant Officer, Warrant Officer Class One Mark Jones from the Defence Force School of Music, Melbourne.

Supported throughout by Australian Army Band Brisbane, these members now join the Australian Army Band’s newest cohort of qualified Drum Majors.
Congratulations and well done on this significant professional achievement. 👏

🎺 From Army Musician to World-Class Performer 🎺

The Band of the Royal Military College was honoured to welcome Brent Grapes, Associate Principal Trumpet of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, for an inspiring masterclass and performance.

A former Australian Army Band musician, Brent shared insights on musicianship, ensemble performance and professional development, drawing on a career that has taken him from Juilliard School in New York, to serving as Principal Trumpet with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, before joining the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Band members also attended the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's performance at Snow Concert Hall, making for a memorable day of learning and musical inspiration. Thank you Brent, for an outstanding day of professional development and musical inspiration 👏

The Australian Army Band is performing at the Australian National Band & Orchestra Conference (ANBOC 26). Hosted by ABODA NSW and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, this national conference for band and orchestra directors enables the Australian Army Band to contribute performances and industry best practice ideas to an international delegation.

🎿🎯 Snow, endurance and marksmanship

MUSN Wenona Campbell, a reservist with the RMC Band has gone from never having skied cross-country to competing at Exercise COOLSHOT26 at Mt Hotham in August.

After first attending the ADF Biathlon Women's Development Camp in 2025, Wenona continued developing her skiing and marksmanship skills before taking on the annual tri-service biathlon competition alongside members from Navy, Army and Air Force. Congratulations to Team Army, who took out overall honours at this year's competition! 🏆

Featuring music by Mozart, Beethoven and Erik Morales, alongside traditional Appalachian and Irish folk melodies, this program brings together vibrant modern works, classical favourites and distinctive chamber music. Tickets are $15 and support the Wesley Music Scholarship.

Featuring performances by CGS students, the RMC Concert Band, and a combined finale, the evening celebrated music, community, and support for the important work of Legacy Australia.
