🎺Please join us in recognising Musician Ryan Koroknai from the Band of the Royal Military College, Duntroon whose dedication to both music and sport continues to exemplify the values of service, discipline and excellence.

Ryan began playing trumpet in Year 7 after his brother brought home an Aldi trumpet — a moment that sparked a lifelong passion for music. From 2018 to 2020, Ryan was awarded a scholarship at the University of Melbourne where he studied a Bachelor of Music before enlisting in the Australian Army Reserve on 31 January 2020. He transitioned to full-time service on 31 March 2022 and has been posted to Canberra ever since. A highlight of Ryan’s career so far has been performing the bugle call for the National ANZAC Day Dawn Service — an honour of immense significance and responsibility.

Outside of music, Ryan is also an accomplished cyclist with achievements at both national and international level. He began cycle racing at just seven years old and set a junior Australian record in the team pursuit at age 15. Since then, he has continued to excel in elite competition, including:
• Bronze medal at the 2026 Elite National Track Cycling Championships (Elimination Race)
• Two top-10 placings at the 2025 National Track Cycling Championships
• Winner of the 2025 ADF Cycling National Championship Road Race
• Representing Australia at the UCI Gran Fondo Championships in 2025
• Selected again to represent Australia at the UCI Gran Fondo Championships in Japan later this year.
In recognition of his achievements and commitment to elite sport, Ryan was recently acknowledged as a High Performance Sports Participant within the ADF in April 2026.

On behalf of the Commanding Officer and members of AAB, congratulations Ryan on your outstanding accomplishments both on stage and on the track.

Please join us in welcoming our newest member, Recruit Oisin Smith - Coburn 🎷

Originally from Wyndham, Oisin was inspired to become a saxophone player after hearing John Coltrane at just eight years old. He began learning clarinet at 11 before moving to saxophone a year later.

A passionate jazz musician, he completed a Bachelor of Jazz Performance at Australian National University in 2014 and is currently performing with various groups in Canberra including the Canberra Jazz Orchestra and Saxedonia.

Oisin is currently working as a landscaper and spends his free time camping, reading, heading to the beach, and of course, playing music.

Oisin joined the Australian Army Band seeking new opportunities to perform, meaningful work, and the chance to be part of a strong team environment. He says he is most looking forward to the people and experiences that Army life will bring.

Welcome to the Australian Army Band Corps Oisin!
