🚒 Tuesday Night Training

Last night Freshwater Creek members were joined by Grovedale Support for a demonstration on their Gas Flare Off Unit. This is very helpful for our members as most of the properties in Freshwater Creek and Surrounds have multiple Gas Bottles that can be affected as a result of a fire.

We also had a great team building task where members were asked to build a lego fire truck using a portable radio with no instructions allowed.

Many thanks to the members from Grovedale CFA for taking the time out of their night to show us through their support vehicle.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile
devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system in communities across Australia, and Geelong, Victoria has been chosen as a test location.

At 2:00 pm on Thursday 18 June 2026, AusAlert community testing is happening in Highton and Belmont. If you’re in this location or in
the Geelong area at the time of the test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone, tablet or smart watch.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that last about 10 seconds.

If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and
others safe.

Last night, the Freshwater Creek brigade held its AGM and Brigade Elections.

We’d like to take a moment to sincerely thank the following members for their dedication and leadership to our brigade as they look to take on other roles within the CFA or stand down from their current roles.

Donald Grimmer – President
Matt Trickey – Captain
Matt Gargett - 1st Lieutenant
Mick Abrahmsen 3rd Lieutenant & Training Co-Ordinator.

Your commitment, time, and effort have played a huge role in shaping the brigade into what it is today. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to the team and the community 👏

We’re also excited to announce our newly appointed BMT.

• President – Mark Spronken
• Captain – Tony McMeel
• 1st Lieutenant – Jason Pietsch
• 2nd Lieutenant – Luke Brook
• 3rd Lieutenant – Simon Parkinson
• 4th Lieutenant – Matt Trickey

And the many other roles that play an important part into running the brigade smoothly.

Congratulations to all members stepping into these roles — we look forward to a strong future.

A big thank you as well to the many members who continue to support the brigade behind the scenes. Your efforts don’t go unnoticed and are vital to everything we do.

It’s been a busy 4 days for Freshwater Creek Volunteers. Multiple strike teams to Mount Mercer and The Otways, many hours on the Fireground and lots of water used.

The brigade has now provided crews to 6 separate strikes teams in 4 days, including back to back relief crew changeover.
Along with this, the brigade also provided 2 Strike team leaders and scribe.

During these 4 days, the local response crews also responded to 2 primary and 1 support calls.
