We're so excited to tell you about our fantastic judge for the John Gavin Writing Competition 2024, local author Joanna Morrison!

Joanna Morrison is a writer and former journalist based in Boorloo (Perth), WA. Her debut novel The Ghost of Gracie Flynn (Fremantle Press, 2022) was shortlisted for the Hungerford Award in 2020 and received a WA creative development grant in 2021.

Joanna's short stories have appeared in various Australian journals and anthologies since she completed her Creative Writing PhD in 2014. Prior to that, as part of her Creative Writing MA, Joanna researched and wrote a creative work set in historical Fremantle, so she is particularly thrilled to read and engage with short fiction that explores this fascinating part of Australian history.

We've had a great time these school holidays helping our young visitors learn about us as the oldest public building in WA and earn some Lego for their efforts! Thanks to the City of Fremantle for helping us be part of the fun.
