We welcome today’s announcement that the current State Government plans to recruit 1,500 more police and build a new police training academy in Melbourne’s west.
On 5 August, Maribyrnong joined Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Wyndham and Melton Councils calling for more police in the west.
More recently, those same Councils, together with Hume, called on the Victorian Government to establish a regional police training academy to help address police shortages across our growing communities.
Today’s announcement shows that strong, united advocacy for our communities works.
This also follows commitments from the opposition for additional police officers (3,000) and reopen stations if they form government after the election.
We welcome these commitments and will keep pushing to make sure Melbourne’s west gets the police presence, resources and frontline services our communities need.
