Ferntree Gully North Primary School

Ferntree Gully North Primary School Ferntree Gully North Primary School Over the past four years the school has steadily increased in enrolment numbers, driven mainly by an increase in Preps.

Ferntree Gully North Primary School, in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, is located directly at the base of the Dandenong Ranges. In 2013 we had student enrolments of 339 with anticipated further growth in 2014 to approximately 360 students. The school had 15 grades with 15 full time teachers, 2 non-teaching Principal class, 9 part time teaching staff and 12 Education Support Staff. In 2013

we had funding confirmed by the State Government to enable a whole school rebuild to commence. The project was confirmed in May as a $4.5 million project and began in August after extensive consultation with Brand Architects who will manage the project on our behalf. We were able to design the buildings and siting on the school premises to customize the design to best suit the way in which we teach and work with students. It was anticipated and is on track that the building project will be completed in the second half of 2014. The school rebuild is based on the projected long term enrolments of our school for the demographics of the Ferntree Gully North PS catchment area which is 275 – 325. Yesterday, our Prep students enjoyed a wonderful walk to Koolunga Nature Reserve as part of their learning about the environment. πŸŒΏπŸƒ
During our visit, students explored the natural surroundings, observed the plants and wildlife around them, and learned about the importance of caring for our environment. We discussed simple ways we can all help protect nature, including keeping our spaces clean, respecting wildlife, and looking after the world around us.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with nature, build their understanding of sustainability, and enjoy learning outdoors together. Well done, Preps, for being such thoughtful and respectful environmental explorers! πŸŒπŸ’š

The Grade 5/6 students had an exciting camp to Sovereign Hill where they stepped back in time to experience life during the gold rush. Students tried their luck panning for gold and were thrilled to find small specks in the water. They also explored how the goldfields helped shape Australian democracy, learning about the events that led to fairer rights and representation for miners. It was a fantastic trip of hands-on learning, history, and excitement.
