18/10/2026

Council supported two lease requests from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), on behalf of the FES Ministerial Body, at the September Council Meeting in Cascade.
The first lease request relates to the emergency communication tower on Dempster Head, with DFES to take over the lease from the Southern Ports Authority, who no longer use the facility.
The second lease is for a small area by the existing water tank and hangars at the Esperance Airport, to support aerial fire suppression activities during the annual grain harvest. This proposal will involve 5 temporary ‘donga type’ structures being placed on site each year for a few months, for staff respite during their operations to improve response times.
As each lease area will be used for community purposes – emergency communications and aerial fire suppression activities – the lease preparation fee will be waived, and peppercorn fees of $1 a year charged.
By facilitating these leases, Council once again demonstrates its commitment to community safety and resilience.

16/10/2026

At the September Council Meeting in Cascade, Council supported the standardisation of on-street parking bays in the Esperance C*D to 2.6m wide, with guide-in lines being painted to assist drivers to park more centrally.
The C*D parking review, part of the Council Plan 2026 – 2036, found that some bays in the Esperance C*D were narrower than the 2.6m standard.
An option to increase the bays above the standard to 2.8m wide was investigated; however, it would have resulted in a further loss of car parking bays.
The endorsed changes add two ACROD parking bays, and a reduction of 28 car parking bays and 7 motorcycle bays across the C*D on-street parking.
