Today, the Student Support Officers and staff welcomed students to the College with a little extra yellow, plenty of smiles and an important reminder: a conversation can make a difference.

Students were encouraged to think about the people around them and to have the confidence to ask, โ€œR U OK?โ€ when something doesnโ€™t seem quite right. R U OK? Day reminds us that we donโ€™t need to be experts to reach out. Sometimes, simply asking, listening without judgement and letting someone know you care can mean a lot.

Throughout the day, students added positive messages and affirmations to our Affirmation Walls, sharing words of encouragement with their peers. Students took part in an R U OK? Scavenger Hunt, while our Student Support Officers were on hand to chat, connect and remind students that itโ€™s OK not to be OK.

While R U OK? Day is a wonderful opportunity to start these conversations; looking out for one another is something we can do any day of the year.

At Aveley SC, our Student Support team is here to support our students every day. We want every student to know that they are valued, supported and never alone in navigating lifeโ€™s ups and downs.

Recently, the Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Water Corporation Waterwise Experience during their HASS period. This interactive and immersive incursion is designed to inspire curiosity and action around water sustainability in Western Australia and the world.

Using silent disco technology and engaging storytelling, students travelled through different 'tent worlds' to explore our water sources, treatment processes and the importance of protecting our planetโ€™s precious resources for a growing population.

From journeying through an arid landscape to exploring space and viewing Perth from a new perspective, students discovered how our choices today can help create a more sustainable future.

The incursion was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that encouraged our students to become sustainability ambassadors!

We were delighted to welcome representatives from the Ellenbrook Police African Advisory Group to spend time with some of our African students and hear about their experiences, perspectives and ideas for our local community.

It was a positive opportunity for connection, conversation and student voice, with our young people sharing their insights and experiences directly with community representatives.

We are proud of the diversity within our College and value opportunities that celebrate the voices, experiences and contributions of our students and strengthen connections across our wider community.

Week 8 is set to bring plenty of friendly competition, as our staff and Year 12 students go head-to-head across a range of sporting challenges, all in the name of bragging rights!

The competition will take place throughout the week during Lunch 2:

As part of an entrepreneurship project, our Education Support students operated a special Fatherโ€™s Day Market Stall today. Students were involved in every stage of the process, from creating and packaging handmade products to pricing items, managing sales and handling money.

The market provided valuable real-world learning experiences while developing practical skills in communication, teamwork, customer service and business management. A fantastic example of learning that connects the classroom with the real world.

Alongside our staff, we would also like to wish all the wonderful fathers and father figures in our community a very Happy Fatherโ€™s Day!

We are incredibly proud to share that Aveley Secondary College is a finalist for the second consecutive year in the Excellence in Teaching and Learning (Secondary) category at the WA Education Awards 2026!

Being recognised as a finalist for the second year in a row is a wonderful reflection of the dedication, expertise and commitment of our teaching and support staff, who work tirelessly to create high-quality learning experiences and opportunities for every student.

At Aveley SC, our staff are committed to continually improving their practice, working collaboratively and ensuring that evidence-based teaching approaches are embedded across the College. The Year 9 Academic Elite Program and HASS extension students recently spent a day at Kings Park Education Centre developing their geographical knowledge and fieldwork skills .

During the orienteering session, students worked collaboratively in groups to apply their mapping and navigation skills as they made their way around the park. Along the journey, they answered quiz questions and explored the parkโ€™s diverse native flora.

In the Bushland Carers workshop, they conducted fieldwork to collect data and plant material for seed conservation and conducted investigations into barriers to seed germination.

Through these hands-on experiences, students gained a deeper appreciation of the biodiversity of Western Australia and the importance of conserving this environment for future generations.

๐’๐ก๐š๐ค๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐‹๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž

The Year 7 English students recently stepped into the world of Shakespeare through a hands-on workshop as part of the Bell Shakespeare Artist in Residence program.

Working with a professional visiting artist, students explored their Term 3 text, A Midsummer Nightโ€™s Dream, through movement, performance and improvisation. Bringing scenes to life gave students a fun and engaging way to explore the characters, story and themes of Shakespeareโ€™s classic play.

One student said that they found the learning both enjoyable and meaningful, describing it as โ€œgood fun making up scenes with your matesโ€ and a great way to gain a better understanding of what happens in the play. Students reflected on how the experience helped bring the story to life.

A fantastic opportunity for our Year 7 students to experience Shakespeare rather than simply read it, building confidence, creativity and a deeper understanding of their text.
