🔥 HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! 🔥

Today we celebrate all the dads, stepdads, grandads, father figures and those who simply step up and fill that role when it matters most.

A special shout-out to the dads within our brigade who give their time not only to their own families, but to help protect and support our wider community.

We know that volunteering often means time away from home, and we’re incredibly grateful to the families who support our members and share them with us.

From everyone at Eglinton Rural Fire Brigade, we wish all the dads and father figures in our community a very Happy Father’s Day.

TRAIN NOW. BE READY WHEN IT MATTERS.

As we prepare for the fire season ahead, our training at Eglinton RFS is stepping up.

Over the coming weeks, our crews will be looking at dangerous trees on the fireground — learning how to identify hazards, assess the risks and work safely around one of the many dangers firefighters can face during bush and grass fires.

Training isn’t just about fighting fires. It’s about building practical skills, confidence and knowledge that can make a real difference when it matters most.

And you can learn these skills too.

If you’ve ever thought about joining the RFS, now is a great time to reach out. No experience needed, we’ll train you.

Now is the time to join Eglinton Rural Fire Brigade and start training for the season ahead.

No experience? No problem — we’ll train you.
You’ll learn practical firefighting skills, work alongside experienced members and become part of a crew that’s there when our community needs us.

And worried you don’t have enough time? Don’t be.

You don’t have to be available for every call, every training night or every event. Whether you can give a few hours here and there or become a regular face around the station, whatever time you can give makes a difference.

There are plenty of ways to contribute, both on and off the fireground. You don’t need to be the fittest, the youngest or know anything about firefighting before you walk through the door.

We provide the training.
We provide the equipment.
You bring the willingness to help.

Every trip matters. Throughout Rural Road Safety Month, we're encouraging everyone to make safe choices on our rural roads.

If you're driving, don't drink or take drugs.

You don't have to feel drunk to be affected by alcohol, and trying to calculate your blood alcohol level simply isn't reliable.

Alcohol and drugs reduce your ability to react, judge distances and make safe decisions.

If you're planning a night out:
✅ Organise a designated driver.
✅ Catch a taxi or rideshare.
✅ Stay the night.
✅ Have a Plan B.

If you're planning to drive, the safest choice is not to drink any alcohol.

Throughout August, we're proud to support Rural Road Safety Month by sharing simple messages that could help save lives on our country roads.Road safety starts with each of us.

Whether you're driving to work, heading to the farm, towing a trailer or travelling into town, every decision behind the wheel matters.

✔ Wear your seatbelt.
✔ Drive to the conditions.
✔ Put the phone away.
✔ Slow down.
✔ Never drive tired or impaired.

Together, we can make our country roads safer for everyone.

Country roads are part of everyday life for many of us. That's why Eglinton Rural Fire Brigade is proud to support Rural Road Safety Month.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing practical road safety messages to help keep our community safe, whether you're heading to work, travelling to sport, or simply driving home.
Slowing down could save a life.

Country roads can change quickly.

Loose gravel, wildlife, farm machinery, blind corners and changing weather all mean that the posted speed limit isn't always the safest speed.

Drive to the conditions, leave plenty of space and allow extra time for your journey.

A few minutes later is far better than not arriving at all.

Wildlife doesn't follow road rules.

Kangaroos, livestock and other animals are most active around dawn and dusk, making these higher-risk times for drivers on country roads.

If you see wildlife warning signs:
⚠ Slow down.
👀 Stay alert.
🚫 Avoid swerving suddenly.
🛑 Brake safely if it's safe to do so.

Remember, one animal often means more nearby.

Take extra care and expect the unexpected when travelling on rural roads.

Throughout the month, we'll be sharing simple tips that can help save lives on our country roads.F eeling tired? Don't takFeeling tired?

Fatigue doesn't just affect long trips – it can happen on any journey, at any time of the day. Slower reaction times, poor judgement and even microsleeps can have devastating consequences.

If you're feeling tired:
🚗 Pull over somewhere safe.
☕ Take a short break.
💧 Stay hydrated.
😴 If needed, have a power nap before continuing.

No destination is worth risking your life or someone else's.

This Rural Road Safety Month, make fatigue part of your travel plan.
