🐾 Hi, it's me! I've been wandering around Margaret Street in Edenhope and I can't find my people anywhere. I'm a tri-colour kelpie girl and I'm starting to think I've gone the wrong way looking for them.

A kind human has got me safe for now, but I really want to go home. If you know whose girl I am, or if you're my family and you're missing me, please contact West Wimmera Shire Council on 13 99 72 so we can find each other again.

And I promise I'll stop running off once I'm back!!

🔔Council meeting alert!

Council meets in Kaniva this Wednesday 16 September at 2pm, and the agenda's got a bit of everything – from advocacy for a $1 billion rural and regional funding push, to the draft Annual Report, to grant applications from the Kaniva Show, Telopea Downs Dinner Dance, Windmill Stitchers' Quilt Exhibition, and the Edenhope Show, all up for consideration.

Oh, and btw – the Councillors have new chairs to sit in while they discuss it all.

We're reviewing how waste and recycling services work across the shire, and we want to hear from you.

💛 A Facebook message tracked Sally down out of nowhere.

Meet Sally, one of our early childhood educators. She's always felt drawn to spending time with children – something that started young, becoming an aunty early and loving those connections. That pull eventually led her into early childhood education when her youngest child started school and an opportunity came up as a KISS worker at the local kinder, which grew into a role as an educator across sessional kinder and childcare.

A year ago, that path came full circle. Sally received a message from a girl who'd been in her kinder room in Edenhope back in 2011. She'd tracked Sally down through Facebook to say she was now studying her Cert III in ECEC – and working in a centre – because her time with Sally had sparked her interest in working with children.

"It was all because her time with me had sparked her interest in working with children."

Sally counts among her proudest achievements working in two different kinders that have both achieved an Exceeding rating in the Assessment & Rating process. These days she splits her time between early years and aged care – work she describes simply as "working with kindness and respect."

Her advice to new educators: "Ask questions! Everyone has different expectations, ways of doing things, etc. so ensure you're on the same page. And really embrace critical reflection."

What she hopes her legacy will be? The value of building secure relationships with children, and recognising their interests as a genuine, intentional way of learning. Or, as Sally puts it more simply: "I love my jobs!"

🍃 Turns out five-year-olds make excellent wetland scientists !

They found a burrow, old duck eggs, a little fish, and even a yabby claw – and let's just say the water had a LOT to answer for. Where does it come from? Where does it go? Who lives in there? The theories were flowing as fast as the questions.

This is what Bush Kinder is all about, hands-on exploring, big curiosity, and kids following their own ideas straight into the mud (in the best way).

Another gorgeous morning of wonder, discovery and getting delightfully dirty in nature.

💙 There's a tree in Harrow that's blue. On purpose.

It's part of the Blue Tree Project – over 1,000 of them dotted across Australia, all painted the same shade for the same reason: to spark a conversation and remind people it's okay to not be okay.

Today is both R U OK Day and World Su***de Prevention Day, so it felt like a good time for the reminder. A conversation can make more difference than we realise – if someone's been on your mind lately, today's a good day to ask: are you OK?
