NPWS will be undertaking a planned hazard reduction burn today in the Yankees Gap area, north of Bemboka.

Smoke will be visible across surrounding areas throughout the day and may settle in low-lying areas overnight. Motorists are advised to drive to conditions if travelling nearby.

Please follow all directions from firefighters and support personnel.

Storms on the afternoon of the 8th of January resulted in a number of lightning strikes, generally south and west of Timbillica. Crews successfully identified and contained two smaller fires, and further reports are being investigated this morning.

There are no reports of any threat to property at this stage, and we are working to ensure that all fires are kept as small as possible in these challenging conditions.

Smoke haze from fires further to our west is making it difficult to locate any new fires and there will be more information to follow as we get a clearer picture of the situation.

Current forecasts indicate that the Far South Coast is going to be in a HIGH Fire Danger Rating from tomorrow Thursday 8/1/26 till Saturday 10/1/26.

The RFS request that if you have had a pile burn on your property in the last 4 weeks that you check to ensure that it is fully extinguished.
