New capital works projects coming soon 📣

This financial year, around $4 million will be invested into capital works and river infrastructure projects.

Projects include:

🌊 W Wayman Reserve river wall Stage 1 - $600k

💡Upgraded flood lighting at Wauhop Park are scheduled for October. The project is funded by a $100,000 grant from the WA Government.

This project is part of the WA Government’s PlayOn WA, an exciting initiative to deliver 2,030 community infrastructure items across WA by 2030.

🚲🚖 George Street Shared Space - $805k

🛤️ Riverside Road renewal works - $610k

⚠️ Road safety improvements - $150k

🏞 East Fremantle Community Park works - $200k

🛝 Ulrich Park playground replacement - $120k

💡Flood-lighting upgrade at Wauhop Park - $100k

☀ Solar panels and battery systems have recently been installed at the Town Hall, Dovenby House and Ops Depot and East Fremantle Community Park.

The $796,000 project is funded by a Community Energy Upgrade Fund grant from the Federal Government and the Town's Sustainability and Environmental Reserve.

How efficient is your irrigation system? 💦

Now that Water Corporation Sprinkler Switch-Off has ended, it’s time to think waterwise this spring.

Before switching your irrigation back on, check your system to ensure your garden gets the water it needs without waste. Even small issues such as uneven watering, leaks or sprinkler run times set too long can add up over time.

By testing how your system performs and making a few simple adjustments, you can help your garden thrive while using water wisely.

Not all sprinklers apply water at the same rate, so the time needed to apply 10mm of water can vary. Before adjusting your settings for the season, make sure your sprinkler run times are suited to your sprinkler type.

Recommended run times:

💧Dripline sprinklers: 30–40 minutes
💧Pop-up and fixed spray sprinklers: 13–16 minutes
💧Rotary sprinklers: 40–60 minutes
💧Micro-spray sprinklers: 13–16 minutes
💧Gear-drive rotary sprinklers: 30–40 minutes

Upcoming traffic changes 📣

📌Canning Highway, between East Street and James Street.

Monday 14 September to Thursday 17 September 2026 (four nights)*

Monday 21 September – Friday 25 September 2026 (five nights)*
8pm – 5am

• Night works are required to install cables for traffic signals and to resurface Canning Highway.
• Intermittent stop / slow traffic management on Canning Highway, between East Steet and James Street.
• Drivers are advised to exercise caution and consider pedestrian/cyclist safety.
• Speed reduced to 40km/hr.
• Road users will be notified of changes in advance and are encouraged to plan ahead.

Please follow all traffic management in the area.

John Tonkin Junior Playground works 🛝

The small playground at John Tonkin Reserve, near Zephyr's cafe, has reached the end of its service life and will be removed from tomorrow (Tuesday 7 September), as part of the Town's ongoing playground renewal program.

For everyone's safety, the area will be temporarily fenced off while works are underway.

We're pleased to share that minor replacement play equipment will be installed in the coming months to refresh the space for local families.
