We had a callout to a grass fire today in our area. It's getting very dry and with this wind it quickly took hold. Thanks to both our crews, McEuen and 2 Urban trucks for bringing it under control. For any fire greater that 2 m x 2 m a permit is required. Which can be easily obtained but contacting the local fire warden. When lighting any fire you need to watch it and always have water on hand or fire fighting equipment to extinguish any escaped fire. Great work from all that attended.

πŸš’ πŸš’ THEN THERE WAS 2 πŸš’ πŸš’

Today I was proud to take delivery of the South Burnett 41. This unit is on temporary assignment to Glencoe Brigade. There has been a lot of work behind the scenes to get the 41 assigned to Glencoe by Area Office. This will be a great asset to Glencoe allowing us to give better protection to our community.

We received a callout to Dangore to a grass fire started by a falling tree that was struck by lightning a few days ago. It was interesting to see where the lighting had exited the tree, you can see by the photos. Great work along with landholders.

Season greetings all, as conditions continue to dry and residents are needing to mitigate fire hazards on their properties caused by the storms or general property maintenance. I have attached a photo from a concerned resident. This fire is borderline legal to have without a permit; however, it was unattended and no adequate means of containment or extinguishment. If your fire is greater than 2m in any one direction you must obtain a permit via an application www.fire.qld.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-05/Application-Permit-Light-Fire.pdf and submit to your local fire warden. Their details can be obtained online www.fire.qld.gov.au/safety-education/using-fire-outdoors/fire-wardens the permit advises and protects you if all the conditions are meet on the permit.
For all fires under 2m in any one direction you must have only one fire lit at any time, contained via a non-combustible structure, bare earth or sodden ground with no fuel loads with in, a means to extinguish in case of escapement and/or to leave cool to touch and monitored at all times. Remember! be mindful of your neighbours by not adding unnecessary anxiety and smoke in their direction and if you can fly a kite don't light a fire. The best times to light a fire are in the evening when the temperature and winds drop.
Please be safe we all want to spend this special time of year with loved ones and enjoying what precise time we have at our own leisure.

Received a callout to a grass fire in Coverty. Landholders had been burning a stump out and had gone to town, leaving the fire unattended. Luckily a neighbour raised the alarm. If you are lighting any fire NEVER leave it unattended. Great work team.

We received a different type of call out today. A transformer caught fire causing a power pole to burn and ignite a small grass fire. Wondai and Proston Urban crews attended. But with power still being live, we had to have a 200m exclusion zone until Ergon was able to turn power off. Power lines had fallen on to fences and with the ground being wet, they were deemed live. A two hour wait for them to make safe. Then working as a team we extinguish the burning transformer and pole. Great team work from everyone.

A timely reminder fires can start so easily as this land holder found out. It is still so very dry in our area.

This was not in our area, but the team at Orange Hill Rural Fire Brigade did an amazing job along with Auxiliary, rural and primary producer personnel responded to a paddock fire today started by a tractor slasher. Crews worked in hot, windy conditions of 38Β°+;to extinguish and mop up the fire.
We urge all landholders to be mindful on these High Fire Danger days and maybe put off slashing, welding, or carrying out any activity that may throw a spark.

As always if you see a fire or smoke, call Triple Zero πŸ“ž
