Last year, over 400 St John WA staff and volunteers reported incidents of violence and aggression. They don’t deserve to feel afraid while helping WA.

We shouldn’t have to say it.

Meet Jenny, She’s one of our dedicated volunteers from Dunsborough, though right now, she’s 1,500 kilometres away 🏜️

Jenny first joined St John Dunsborough in 2013, bringing her nursing experience to quickly gain EMT skills. Now Jenny’s a part of St John WA’s Voluntourism Program, an opportunity that lets volunteers explore our great state while lending a hand at other sub-centres. For Jenny, it’s been the perfect adventure.

“It was just the perfect time to combine travel and volunteering. I mapped out my three year plan in March 2021, ordered the caravan and hit the road in June 2024.”

After a quick visit home for Christmas last year, Jenny returned to Eucla, where she’s still discovering hidden gems like caves, sandhills, lush bushland, even an old quarry built by Fremantle prisoners a century ago.

“I love it out here… there’s so much to see and do. I even spotted a huge eagle’s nest, it was just beautiful.”

Want to be a local legend (everywhere 😉) like Jenny? Volunteer with St John WA today 🚑

Jenny’s tip: “Get as many skills under your belt as you can, and don’t hold back, be an adventurer!”

Meet Sarah, one of our newest volunteers 🤩

Sarah has spent the past decade working in First Aid and the healthcare industry, and she thrives on helping others.

“I look forward to working and getting to know the Dunsborough community.”

Sarah is well into her training and is already out on the road in the ambulance.

“My experience so far has made me feel very welcomed, and I’ve really enjoyed the face-to-face training and the unlimited hands-on learning opportunities.”

We’re thrilled to have Sarah as part of the team and we’re always looking for more local legends 🚑

Meet Matt Macdonald.

Matt’s one of our dedicated Volunteer Ambulance Officer and a Patient Transport Officer with St John WA. But right now, he’s preparing to take on something very different 🏊🏻

Matt is training to swim the English Channel. Yes, the full 33 kilometres of icy waters to raise funds for a WA charity close to his heart.

To prepare, Matt’s been taking ice baths three times a week and wearing shorts in winter. Our waters might not be quite as cold as the Channel, but he’s doing what he can to get ready 🥶

Another local legend!
Good luck, Matt. We’re behind you all the way.

Meet Annie, one of our newest volunteers and she’s already making an impact 🤩

After years working in the funeral industry, Annie was no stranger to helping people in tough moments.

"I recently attended a brief CPR and defibrillator session, run by St John WA. It was run very professionally and when the trainer mentioned Volunteering I knew immediately this was for me”

Since then, Annie’s jumped into training online, in person, and on the job.

“All the vollies have made me feel so welcome.”

We’re lucky to have her, and we’re always looking for more local legends.
