Little Penguin fact !

20/05/2026

Meet Tinsel and Alice! These guys came into our care when a follower reached out because due to a change in their circumstances they could keep them.
While Tinsel is 6 years old Alice is a whopping 36 years old which makes her even older than Nick! Which according to the kids is VERY old!

For this weeks Creature Feature we meet Daisy one of our Ringtail Possums!
Daisy is a proud mother of 1 who in her spare time enjoys teaching people about the importance of preserving hollow trees and munching on rose petals ๐ŸŒน

When many people imagine what life might look like for a wildlife carer they might think of their house full of baby animals needing bottle feeding.
While there is certianly no end to the bottles (as any carer this spring!) so much of what carers do is the less glamorous stuff.
Not just cleaning enclosures, but hours on the road to rescues, often knowing the result will not be a happy one, trips to vets, LOTS of laundry, or the admin work of organising whoโ€™s attending call outs, keeping licences up to date ect
We are fortunate to have great relationships with a few local wildlife carers and it never ceases to amaze us how Shelly at Hamilton Wildlife Shelter -Victoria Australia manages to fit it all in and still occasionally help us out at shows!
Wildlife demonstrating is amazing, and we are in the unique position of having people look up to us, but the real heroes are often behind the scenes caring for injured wildlife 24/7 for no pay.

It's been a big week with cases and the rescue team have been busy.
Thank you to these legends:

Michelle, Koala at Portland
Julie, Koala at Portland
Sharon, Possum at Portland
Leon, Possum at Bolwarra
Kelly, Koala at Digby
Kate, Possum at Casterton
Kelly again, Koala at Hamilton
Shelters Pam at Wildwood and Robyn R at Whigadn for taking on animals โ™ก
And of course, everyone who called in animals, helped to contain them, or transported to meet rescuers/carers โ™ก

Love our beautiful network โ™กโ™ก

๐Ÿ“ท: Kelly captured and removed this youngster from a back yard with dogs this morning. Released nearby into eucalpyts. Thanks Kelly โ™ก

Have you heard of the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat?

This species was once thought to be extinct after a century of human persecution until a small population was discovered in Epping Forest State Park in QLD.

In the decades since the species now numbers over 400 individuals spread over 3 seperate populations.

While this recovery is an inspirational example of conservation, the species is still among the most endangered mammals on earth.

We had the good fortune of visiting Brent and Liane at Uleybury Native Wildlife Sanctuary and there place is a fantastic example that sometimes helping animals and helping people go hand in hand perfectly!
