Regional Development Australia - Orana is part of a national initiative based on building partnerships and ensuring that all governments and stakeholders are responsive to local priorities and needs. It is a conduit between government and local communities, and a provider of information. We are a non-profit community-based organisation, led by a committee appointed by both State and Federal minist

ers responsible for regional development. Our work falls into five major categories, guided by a regional plan. These are: business investment, economic growth and diversification, workforce development, improved infrastructure, whole-of-government policy and planning.

Meet Amrita!

We're thrilled to welcome Amrita Dutta to the team as Administration Officer for The Welcome Experience Orana.

If you've ever stayed at Quest Dubbo, there's a good chance Amrita made it feel like home. For nearly a decade she's led the team there as Property Manager, and that same warmth, attention to detail and genuine care for people is exactly what she's bringing to her new role with us.

Amrita's path to Dubbo took her from India to the United Kingdom and across the hospitality world before she put down roots in the Orana, so she knows first-hand what it feels like to arrive somewhere new and find your footing. With more than fourteen years of leadership, administration and stakeholder experience behind her, a Master's in International Business Management, and recognition including Dubbo Regional Council's Local Hero and a national HM Awards Rising Star nod, she brings a rare mix of professionalism and heart to the work.

In her new role, Amrita will often be the first friendly voice essential workers and their families hear as they prepare to move to the region. She'll be coordinating welcomes, connecting people with our Local Connectors, and making sure every new arrival feels seen, supported and genuinely glad they came.

Are you, or someone you know, moving to the Orana for work? Amrita would love to hear from you. Reach out to The Welcome Experience Orana team at RDA Orana to start the conversation.

Welcome to the team, Amrita. The Orana is lucky to have you.

With the Inland Rail project no longer proceeding through the north‑west, many councils, freight operators and local businesses who had invested heavily in planning and preparation have been left disappointed. This decision leaves a major gap in the national freight network.

That’s exactly why the Golden Highway rail corridor — completing the Maryvale–Gulgong link and upgrading Gulgong–Ulan weight limits — is now critical infrastructure for the Orana and Hunter regions.

Our Business Case shows the project will deliver a strong economic return for NSW, unlock capacity for rapidly growing freight, cut travel time, reduce operating costs and shift freight from road to rail, reducing crashes, emissions and road maintenance.

This is the infrastructure our region needs now. Completing these upgrades linking Dubbo to Newcastle and beyond is the critical piece of the network that will keep our region growing.

In the wake of the Inland Rail decision, this corridor becomes critical infrastructure for the future of regional NSW.
