1. Reduce your speed.
2. Avoid distractions while driving.
3. Increase your following distance from the vehicle in front.
4. Turn your headlights on when driving in the rain — you may be able to see clearly, but other drivers may struggle to see you.

The Orana team had a great time at the Dubbo Show this weekend! 🎡🐨

From dancing with dinosaurs to waving in the parade, we were proud to be part of such a fantastic community event. Our dearest Smoky did get up to some odd activities… like a duck race with our mate Paddy Platypus, of course with plenty of fun banter along the way! 😄

A huge shoutout to our cadets who represented the team brilliantly, along with all the volunteers who helped out across the three days. Plenty of smiles, waving arms, dancing, and community spirit all round!

Thanks to everyone who came out to say hello and cheer us on. We think Smoky may have stolen the show… but we’ll let the cadets debate that one! 🐾

🎡 Guess what?! We’re back at the Dubbo Show again! 🚒🔥

Head on down and say g’day to our amazing crew, check out the trucks and displays, and have a yarn with the volunteers who help keep our communities safe.

And while you’re wandering around… keep your eye out for a curious (and cheeky) koala roaming about 👀🐨🔥

Come say hello, we’d love to see you there!

Is it a bird? 🦅
Is it a plane? ✈️
Well… yes actually, it’s a couple of planes. And if you’ve noticed aircraft circling around Dubbo and the Goonoo over the last two days… no, the pilots weren’t lost!

Crews from across the state have been undertaking the Air Attack Supervisor (AAS) course based out of Dubbo Airport, with practical operations taking place over the Goonoo Forest.

The AAS role is a critical part of firefighting operations, coordinating firebombing and tactical aircraft activity to ensure aviation resources can operate safely, effectively and efficiently in support of crews on the ground and the suppression and containment of fires.

From mapping, communications and managing airspace to coordinating multiple aircraft in dynamic conditions, there’s a lot more happening above a fireground than most people realise. It’s not just “chuck some water on it and hope for the best” or “wet stuff on the red stuff”, there’s a huge amount of planning, strategy and coordination involved behind the scenes.

Training like this plays an important role in building capability and ensuring members are ready when aviation resources are called into action during the fire season.

A massive effort by everyone involved over the two days, both in the air and on the ground. 🚒✈️

We’re smack bang in the middle of National Volunteer Week, and it’d be rude not to give a shoutout to all the absolute legends who keep this district ticking. 🚒

From call-outs to training nights, maintenance runs, community engagement, the forbidden paperwork and everything in between there’s a whole lot that happens behind the scenes that most people will never see. And somehow our members still turn up with a laugh, a yarn and probably a questionable amount of instant coffee keeping them going….

Volunteering out here isn’t glamorous, but it says a lot about a person when they’re willing to give their time to look after their community and each other.

So to all our volunteers, thank you. For your time, your commitment, your patience, your good humour and the countless things you do without wanting credit for it.

As a little extra thank you, give a shoutout in the comments to a volunteer or a brigade you admire and look up to, someone who consistently puts in the effort in whatever way they can. It’s always good to recognise the people around us who quietly make a difference.

Thank you to all our Orana volunteers! We reckon we’ve got the best bunch going around. 🙌

Today, we celebrate the incredible mums, grandmothers, step-mums and mother figures throughout our community. And let’s not forget about all the brigade mums, who take their members under their wings! 💐

Whether they are supporting from behind the scenes, volunteering beside us, holding families together during tough seasons, or simply always being there when needed most, today is for you.

From all of us at the Orana Team, thank you for your strength, care and unwavering support.

We wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day. ❤️🚒

A huge congratulations to Ballimore Rural Fire Brigade on being awarded the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for Service.

This recognition is a testament to the outstanding dedication, professionalism, and resilience shown by the brigade in serving their community particularly in this instance responding to difficult MVAs. The events of 15 February 2024 highlight not only the challenging environments our volunteers face, but the incredible teamwork, compassion, and strength they bring to every call. This brigade demonstrated exceptional coordination and commitment.

Thank you Ballimore RFS, for your unwavering service and for everything you do to keep your community safe. This recognition is so well deserved. 👏

We also extend our commemoration to David Bosworth, a member of the RFS since 1965. Over decades of service, David has contributed across numerous operational roles and held ranks throughout his journey as both a volunteer and staff member. His dedication and unwavering support to the service and community are truly remarkable and do not go unnoticed.

It’s 2026 NSW Youth Week!

This year’s theme, ‘Dream. Dare. Do.’, couldn’t be more fitting for our incredible Orana Rhino Cadets.

Meeting weekly, our cadets take part in a wide range of training and activities that build skills, confidence, and teamwork. Made up of young people aged 12–16, they bring energy, curiosity, and determination to everything they do.

They’re bold in their ambitions and supportive of one another. They are always ready to step up to a challenge. The future is in great hands with this group, dreaming big, daring to try, and getting it done. We can not wait to see what achievements they will make in the future!

If you or someone you know might be interested in joining our Cadets, please reach out to the District Office!
