Wambangalang Environmental Education Centre (WEEC) works within a team of 26 Environmental and Zoo Education Centres (EZEC) providing services to schools throughout NSW within the NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC)

WEEC is a small dynamic facility, within a travelling stock route reserve consisting of regenerating box gum grassy woodland. It sits within the broader natural and cul

tural landscape of Central Western NSW that is traditionally home to the Wiradjuri people. More recently the local landscape has been employed in broad acre stock and crop farming to sustain Australia’s food requirements. These are also considered natural/cultural assets

WEEC has no enrolments, but accepts bookings K-12, providing best practice programs supporting many key learning areas, student welfare and support within the context of Environmental and Sustainability Education. WEEC provides high quality fieldwork and environmental and sustainability education to students from the local area as well as outreach programs to those students in many rural and remote areas of Western NSW and beyond.. Programs immerse students in both the minutiae and the broader physical and cultural aspects of the local landscape. WEEC aims to develop an awareness of stepping beyond the unspoken or intrinsic environmental values embedded in its programs to promote conscious professional development for visiting teachers and positive behaviour change for students and school communities. WEEC also delivers professional learning opportunities for teaching staff via centre programs, collaborative opportunities with other local agencies and opportunities for schools to book the centre for their staff development days.

Wambangalang EEC welcomed Dubbo West Public School Year 5/6 to our School this week. The weather wasn't perfect but the students had a great time learning about our reptiles and completing archery lessons in our undercover archery area. They made the most out of their stay with us with night activities including a camp fire and a nature spotting walk. We hope they loved their stay as much as we loved having them visit our School.

We are half way through Term 2 and the year is going quickly! We have welcomed 20 Schools to Wambangalang this year. The schools have enjoyed exploring our site, interacting with our reptiles and taking part in learning programs both day and during overnight camps. We welcome new teaching staff to our School and look forward to them having as much fun here as the visiting students do.

A small group of Year 11 Bio students from Molong Central School visited our lovely Centre last week to complete an ecosystem study of the Australian Ecosystem.
They ventured up the road to Turtle Rock and scrambled to the very top to see the awesome views, they also went to a dam on the same property.
There was lots of excitement at our WEEC pond meeting lots of yabbies and Tommy the Turtle.
A few extra passengers for Mrs Scoggins were put on the bus for a new home in Molong - 2 hens and a rooster!
Great day had by all :)
