🖌️✒️ After four inspiring months, our inaugural Writer in Residence program has come to a close.

Poet and artist Oormila Vijayakrishnan Prahlad spent her residency creating new work from a studio in the heritage-listed E.J. Ward building. Reflecting on her time with us, Oormila said, "I leave the residency with a significant new body of work, renewed artistic energy, and deep gratitude to Woollahra Libraries, its staff and community for making such opportunities possible."

We're delighted to have welcomed Oormila as our first Writer in Residence and grateful for the creativity, insight and generosity she shared with our community.

Oormila will return to Woollahra Library at Double Bay on Sunday 5 July for a creative zuihitsu workshop, exploring a hybrid poetry and visual art form. Book your place: 🔗https://ZuihitsuWorkshop.eventbrite.com.au

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for a fascinating discussion on language, truth and misinformation with Michaela Kalowski, Professor Nick Enfield, Anthony Levin and Polly Cameron.

From AI-generated content and public trust to the power of language in shaping debate and disagreement, the panel explored some of the most pressing questions facing our information landscape today.

The conversation continues on Monday 30 June with The Matter of Facts. Join ABC journalist Rosemary Bolger and Lorin Reid for a discussion about journalism, evidence, misinformation and the role facts play in public life.

There's just one month left to enter the inaugural Woollahra Young Writers’ Award. ✍️

Hear from Short Story Judge Samera Kamaleddine Author on why writing awards can be a great place for young writers to start sharing their work.

Open to young people aged 12–18 who live or study in Woollahra or surrounding LGAs, with short story and poetry categories for Years 7–9 and Years 10–12.

Winners in each category will receive a $300 cash prize and a mentoring session with their category judge.

with a bit of a mystery 🕵️

We're hanging a selection of archival photographs at Paddington Library, including this wonderful image from the 1950s.📷It was taken at the Frank Green Library, which was then located inside Paddington Town Hall, and shows librarian Miss Hannon at the desk.

Our Local History team has been trying to identify the school the children are from based on their uniforms, but so far the answer remains a mystery. 🔍

Filled with stories, songs, puppetry and play, Becoming Me! introduced important concepts around identity, friendship and trusted adults in a fun and age-appropriate way. Join us next week at all three libraries for Jack and Jill Up Bravery Hill!

🎤 Join us for the Woollahra heat of the Australian Poetry Slam 2026.

Whether you're stepping up to the mic or taking a seat in the crowd, this lively spoken word competition is a chance to hear original poetry, support local voices and experience the energy of live performance.

Hosted by facilitator Dai Moret (shown performing) and presented by Word Travels, the Australian Poetry Slam sees poets perform their work in just two minutes, with the audience deciding who progresses to the next round.

🌟 Child Safety Storytimes at Woollahra Libraries 🌟

Join us for a special series of child safety storytimes designed to help young children build confidence, understand personal safety and explore topics such as trusted adults, body boundaries and relationships through storytelling, music, play and guided activities.

We begin tomorrow, Saturday 13 June, at Woollahra Library at Double Bay with Becoming Me! featuring Miss FeatherBee. 🪶

The series continues with Jack and Jill Up Bravery Hill:

📚 Tuesday 23 June – Watsons Bay Library
📚 Wednesday 24 June – Woollahra Library at Double Bay
