The fire season is almost here meaning it's now time to install your firebreak.🔥

Firebreaks must be installed and maintained clear of flammable materials from 15 October 2026 up to and including 15 May 2027.

Firebreaks are used to help minimise or stop the rapid spread of bushfires by having a gap in the vegetation down to soil level, in which fire is unable to easily leap over or creep across.

Effective firebreaks help reduce the risk of fires entering or leaving your property. They can take many forms and can be created by ploughing the soil in strips and removing vegetation.

Well-maintained firebreaks mean our firefighting crews can access your property and deal with a bushfire emergency safely and efficiently.

To view the Firebreak Notice visit https://irwin.wa.gov.au/firebreaks/

You can also help by preparing your home early by cleaning gutters, trimming back trees and by maintaining a low vegetation buffer around your house and outbuildings.

What a fantastic turnout for the official opening of the Port Denison Boat Ramp and Floating Jetty last week!

A huge thank you to the community members who came along to celebrate this important milestone with us, as well as the Hon Sandra Carr MLC, representing the Minister for Regional Development, the Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, the Chair of the Mid West Development Commission, Lara Dalton and CEO Nils Hays, and the team from the Department of Transport.

We’d also like to thank everyone who helped bring this project to life, our contractors, Shire staff, Port Denison Volunteer Sea Search & Rescue, the WA Government, who provided funding through the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme and the Small Grants Program.
