Art in the Park: Nature in the Round
Explore the circles found throughout nature on an interpretive walk. Use what you discover as inspiration to create your own mandala.

Look around the natural world around you. What shapes do you notice? Circles appear throughout nature because they are one of the most balanced and efficient shapes that can exist.
Take a walk through the woods at Gray Park Natural Area and discover this well-rounded shape in the landscape around you.
To celebrate the circle, participants will take part in a short interpretive walk before creating their own nature mandala, using inspiration and colourful fall materials gathered from the surrounding landscape.

Event Details
Meet your facilitator at the Gray Park South Entrance at 4:30 p.m. Together, we'll enjoy a short interpretive walk. Then it will be time to create your nature mandala. Make sure to bring a camera to capture your creative work! The program will wrap-up at 5:30.

Please watch for posted signage and follow all detours.

Thank you for your patience.

Art in the Park: Zentangling in the Trees

Take a mindful nature break and connect with the landscape—and those around you—through this art-inspired experience.
Discover the relaxing and meditative art of Zentangling. Rather than creating a realistic picture, Zentangle art uses simple lines, curves, dots, and repeating patterns to create beautiful abstract designs. The process encourages mindfulness, creativity, and a sense of calm.

As you create, you'll also explore the colours of the season, learn about the remarkable aspen tree, and discover how spending time in nature can inspire both art and well-being.

Event Details: August 13th
Meet your facilitator at the Gray Park South Entrance at 4:30 p.m. Together, we'll enjoy a short walk into the park to our outdoor art space beneath the trees. Following a 20-minute introduction to Zentangling and the surrounding landscape, you'll receive your art supplies and begin creating. Work at your own pace, and you're welcome to stay as long as you'd like to complete your artwork.

Includes:
Facilitated nature and interpretive program; All art supplies
Please Bring: Camp chair

If you go down to the park today you may notice that the north end is looking a little waterlogged! The Sheep is running high and fast and because of this the Gray Park trails are closed for now. On a positive note, the majority of the trails and beaver ponds are not impacted by high water, thanks to a combo of beaver and human engineering.

Lots of learning happened in the park today! A local home schooling group explored how beavers shape the local landscape through a walk-and-talk mixed with games and activities. We also found evidence of one very industrious beaver(s) who took down a huge poplar. A great day in Gray Park!

On May 12th, Kirby ‘The Beaver Guy’ of You Betula Environmental Inc., a professional biologist from Lethbridge, and his field staff installed multiple beaver flood prevention structures at the trail crossing in Grey Park Natural Area in Diamond Valley. Dams within the culverts were taken apart the same way beavers built them: one armful of sticks and mud at a time.

The Town of Diamond Valley is supportive of beaver coexistence efforts and assisted with the installation by temporarily closing the trail and providing safe access into the site. Western Sky Land Trust provided financial support for the project and a landowner coexistence grant from The Beaver Institute, available to You Betula as a BeaverCORPS member, is also expected to further offset project costs.

Projects like this are incredibly valuable. The benefits of living alongside beavers far outweigh the costs. Beavers create or enhance wetlands that filter water, support hundreds of other species, and store water on the landscape when we need it most. These installations improve safety for both park users and the beavers themselves. There is no reason to remove beavers as wetland co-managers when cost-effective and proven coexistence solutions exist. The installations today are a great example of applied science and non-lethal beaver management in action. You Betula Solves Dam Problems and looks forward to revisiting the site in the future to further public outreach and provide additional hands-on training for project partners.

If you head into the park today you might be in for a surprise! Please be advised that access to Gray Park will be impacted due to tree clearing beginning April 6 to 10. This work is being conducted to clear trees and vegetation from the intended flood berm extension by the Town of Diamond Valley.

Western Sky is supportive of the timing of the tree removal to avoid disruption to migratory bird nesting.
