The rainy weather has forced our Year 8 Sport for Boys and Sport for Girls classes indoors, where they had a go at carpet bowls.

It was great to see them persist with learning the skills and working out how challenging the bias on the bowl can be.

Rhodes Scholar Article - “100 years on, Devonport High alumnus Sir Roland Wilson remains an inspiration for young Tasmanians"
The article is by Sam Watson (Tasmania's 2025 Rhodes Scholar), and reflects on the parallels between Sam and Devonport alumnus Sir Roland Wilson (Tasmania's 1925 Rhodes Scholar) despite the 100-year gap. It's ultimately a call-out encouraging students from all backgrounds to consider applying for the Rhodes Scholarship in future. Both Sam and Dr Robert Hortle are dedicated to ensuring that more Tasmanians from the North of the state apply for the Rhodes.

The article is hosted on the Rhodes Trust website here:

The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest international scholarship programme in the world, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to undertake full-time postgraduate study at the University of Oxford.

Every School Day Matters

We’ve reached the halfway point of Term 2 - we have had Camp, RYDA, Cross Country and still have Inter High Cross Country to go.

As mentioned at the start of term, attendance is a real focus for our school this year. Being at school every day provides our students with the best opportunity to grow and thrive.

During these cooler months we know that illness is one of the main reasons our students miss school. We appreciate your child not coming to school when they are sick but encourage them to return as soon as they are well again so that they don’t miss out. If you
or your child has concerns about the transition back to school after illness, please contact us/talk to their teacher/home group teacher - we are here to help.

There are simple steps you can take to help protect yourself and your family from serious illnesses caused by common respiratory infections. More information about winter wellness is available at www.health.tas.gov.au/campaigns/winter-wellness.

Our overall attendance rate is currently sitting at 79.2% and we are aiming to improve on this.

I'd like to thank families and students for their efforts in prioritising attendance and getting to school on time each day.

We know there can be real challenges with getting students to school. Please remember that help is available via the school so please reach out to us on 6424 9461.

You can find a range of resources and tips to help in getting your child to school at www.anything.tas.gov.au

Going to school isn’t always easy. But when you go, you massively increase your options and opportunities.
