Our DHS Jets Football team did a fantastic job yesterday at the Secondary School Girls Gala Day. They won 4 games, drew 1 and lost 1.

It was great to see their teamwork and determination get stronger with each game they played today. Congratulations to all that attended for representing DHS with great team spirit!

Every School Day Matters
It's hard to believe we've already reached the half-way point of third term. We have had fantastic fun and results with the Brain Bee Competition, Badminton Gala Day, we've had visiting students from Kinmen and excursions to Cradle Mountain.
Student attendance has been a real focus for us this term and this will continue for the remainder of the year. Regular attendance helps build strong learning habits, lasting friendships and future opportunities. It's easy to think that a few days here and there won't matter, but over time they can really add up and impact your child's school journey.
We appreciate that in winter months there is a lot of illness and missing school can sometimes be unavoidable. We appreciate your child not coming to school when they are unwell but encourage them to return as soon as they are well so they don't miss out. Start with one day, talk with us - we can help.

Youth, Family & Community Connections - Youth Awards
Do you know a young person aged 13 - 18 who:-
Brings positive energy and leads by example?
Quietly gets on with things and gives their best effort?
Is always there for their friends and supports those around them?
If so, YFCC would love to see them nominated for one of the Inspiring Youth Awards. These awards celebrate the many amazing young people in our communities whose efforts, resilience, kindness and achievements often go unrecognised.

With book week coming up it is important to remember that one of the best things you can do for your learning (and life) is to pick up a book and read!

At DHS we are embracing our reading strategies in all subject areas to improve our literacy skills.

Here are some of our Year 8 students demonstrating a choral read, an echo read, a cloze read and a repeated read.

Jamie, Evie and Ekam participated in the State Final of the Australian Brain Bee competition on Thursday.

The competition was held at the Menzies Centre in Hobart and the students were given a tour of the research facilities as part of the day. After studying the brain since March, our students were well-prepared for the questions in the final and represented DHS with distinction.

Jamie finished first, Evie was third and Ekan was fourth. Jamie will now represent Tasmania at the national final in Sydney.
