port offers a safe and pristine environment, friendly and welcoming people and plenty of opportunities. Devonport is the major sea gateway to Tasmania and its thriving port is the home for the two luxury passenger ferries, Spirit of Tasmania I & II. These ferries connect Devonport with Melbourne, offering daily sailings. Devonport airport is the third largest in Tasmania, with frequently scheduled daily services to Tullamarine in Victoria. Devonport is particularly well known for it's reserves and recreational facilities. From the kilometres of walking and cycling tracks, many beautiful beaches, a river which is suitable for various water sports, great fishing spots and numerous parklands, the city really does encourage an active and family friendly lifestyle. Cultural facilities include the Regional Art Gallery which has a collection of Tasmanian art works, ceramics, prints, and photographs; the Maritime Museum with a collection relating to early shipping activities; the Devonport Entertainment & Convention Centre which is considered to be the premier entertainment facility in the North West; Imaginarium Science Centre, Tasmania's first and only science discovery centre; and Tiagarra Aboriginal Culture Centre and Museum. Although the municipality is small in area for Tasmania, at only 116 square kilometres, it is the centre for a rich agricultural district which produces over 40% of Tasmania's vegetable crops (Beans, Onions, Peas, Potatoes etc) and very significant values of cereals, oil poppies, pyrethrum and other crops. Dairy production and processing is also significant. Secondary industry includes processing of agricultural products, production of woven towelling, and production of high grade carpet, all at levels which represent a large share of total Australian production. The district also produces pulp and paper and other forest products and cement of which large tonnages are exported through the port.

Ever carefully sort your recycling, only to watch it make a break for freedom halfway down the street?

Yeah. We can help with that.

We've scored a limited number of FREE recycling bin latches from our friends at the Cradle Coast Waste Management Group (CCWMG) to help keep yellow-lid bins shut when Tasmania decides to remind us who's really in charge.

The clever bit? The latch keeps the lid closed on windy days but automatically releases when the collection truck empties your bin.

If your recycling regularly ends up touring the neighbourhood:

✔ Drop into the Council Office at the paranaple centre, 137 Rooke Street and grab a free latch
✔ Scan the QR code and register your details (CCWMG will check in after 3 months to see how it's going)
✔ Fit the latch and let the wind find another hobby

Numbers are limited, so once they're gone, they're gone.

Round them up and roll them in!

Want to get rid of a spare tyre...or two? Are they clean and not on a rim? Dispose of them for free at our North West Tasmania tyre amnesty!

Tyres are hazardous to dispose of, and expensive to recycle, so some people store them or even worse, dump them.

The Cradle Coast Waste Management Group want to make responsible disposal of your unwanted tyres easy and affordable.

Bookings are essential. Tyres won't be accepted without a booking.
For more information and to book visit: https://events.humanitix.com/car-tyre-amnesty-for-north-west-tasmanian-residents-devonport

Only applicable to residents of North West Tasmania (proof of address required).

Our Works Depot became a training ground last night as the Mersey SES Unit put their spill containment skills to the test.

Faced with a simulated mystery liquid leaking from two containers, volunteers used sandbags, Forticon sheeting and teamwork to successfully contain the majority of the spill.

We're proud to support training exercises like these, helping local SES volunteers build the skills and experience needed to respond when our community needs them most.

Thanks to the TAS SES - Mersey Unit for all they do to help keep our region safe.

As our community prepares to enjoy Cracker Night tomorrow, we remind all pet owners to take extra care of their animals.

Loud noises and fireworks can be frightening for pets. To help keep them safe and comfortable:
🐾 Keep pets indoors or in a secure area
🐾 Ensure identification tags and microchip details are up to date
🐾 Provide a quiet, safe space where they can feel secure
🐾 Check fences and gates before the evening begins

Let's work together to keep our furry friends safe while enjoying the festivities.

Passionate about your community and ready to make a difference?

Local government elections are happening this October across all 29 Tasmanian councils.

If you’re considering nominating for councillor, mayor or deputy mayor, now is the perfect time to learn what’s involved.

The Local Government Association of Tasmania has released a Candidate Handbook covering eligibility, the nomination process and campaigning. It’s a great place to start.

Download it from the LGAT website: https://www.lgat.tas.gov.au/council-elections

Mayor Jarman has acknowledged and thanked everyone involved in the new Spirit of Tasmania berth project on behalf of the City, recognising the latest major milestone in this transformative waterfront development.

Projects of this scale leave a lasting mark, creating infrastructure that will support tourism, trade and Tasmania’s connection to the mainland for decades to come.

Behind every milestone are the crews, contractors and project teams putting in the work to deliver something built for the future. Congratulations to everyone involved in reaching this important point in the project.

This isn’t maintenance. This is transformation.

From mid-June, Stewart Street will become the next chapter in a smarter, safer and more innovative city centre — designed for the way people move, connect and experience Devonport.

What’s coming:

- Removal of overhead power lines for a cleaner, modern streetscape.
- Brand new road pavement and kerb renewal.
- Upgraded pedestrian walkways built with accessibility and movement in mind.
- 3 additional parking bays and flush kerbing to improve DDA access.
- A raised intersection at Edward & Stewart Street to put pedestrian safety front and centre.
- Removal of the right-hand turn into Southern Rooke Street to improve traffic flow and function.
- Mall frontage squared up, with eastbound traffic reduced to a single lane to create a more people-focused space.
- A contemporary streetscape designed to future-proof the heart of our city.

Great cities don’t happen by accident.
Devonport is moving forward — and we’re not doing it quietly.
