We’re starting a new 4-week Baby Rhyme Time program tomorrow and we still have 2 spots left!

This small, relaxed floor program is perfect for parents and their pre-crawling babies (0–12 months). Enjoy:

The Living Knowledge Project: Bridging Cultures through Storytelling

Devonport Library partnered with the local Aboriginal community to present the Living Knowledge Project. The project was a year-long residency program for Tasmanian Aboriginal individuals to share personal journeys through storytelling and integrating oral traditions into libraries.

The quotes we share are from the conversations with residents sharing their personal journeys through the ancient art of yarning and storytelling.

The Living Knowledge Project invites all community members to listen, learn, and engage with the rich mosaic of Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and its people. Together, let us honour the past, celebrate the present, and forge a brighter future built on understanding and respect.

📚 To Slip the Bonds of Earth by Amanda Flower

This book is a whodunnit and it certainly had me from the start. It’s based on the Wright siblings as we all know Orville and Wilbur Wright .This is an historical mystery which involves their sister Katharine who is a woman ahead of her time. She is a schoolteacher and works in the brother's bicycle shop while they are away building their flying machine. Katherine was the only sibling of the Wright family to attend college she was very talented as was all the four siblings. Truly an amazing family and what a book I really had to force myself to put it down to do housework. Mind you, the book won.

This year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge is off and running at schools around the state!

Why not visit your local library to find a new read to add to your reading tally? Libraries Tasmania has a large collection of books for children and young people:

📚 For children who are learning to read independently, check out early readers. They feature simple vocabulary and repetitive text.

🕵️ For curious kids, try borrowing a Little Explorers book pack. These packs contain five carefully selected books on an early learning topic for children aged 4–8 years.

🖥️ The eLibrary has lots of junior stories on Libby and BorrowBox. Families can also explore StoryBox, where you can watch expert Australian storytellers read diverse and inclusive stories.

🔎 If your little one has a favourite book, you don’t have to spend time searching for similar titles. Simply hop onto our catalogue and check out the “You may also like” tab – you’ll find great suggestions with similar themes and styles.
