The Bureau of Meteorology is advising that much of NSW is at risk of thunderstorm activity today, with some regions likely to experience severe storms.

Large hail, damaging winds, and intense rainfall are possible across the western ranges, slopes and plains, as well as parts of the northern and central coast. Some storm cells may produce heavy, slow-moving rainfall, leading to flash flooding, particularly across the Illawarra, Sydney Metropolitan Area, Hunter and southern Mid North Coast.

Please remember: If it’s flooded, forget it.

Thunderstorms are already active in parts of Sydney, the Illawarra and the Alpine region, and storm activity may continue late into tonight and into early Saturday, with a possible redevelopment of storms in the far west as a cold front approaches. Conditions can change quickly, and storms may form with little notice, so please stay alert for updates. We’ll continue to share new information as it becomes available.

We’re encouraging everyone to take a few moments now to get storm ready
• Secure or pack away loose outdoor items
• Park vehicles away from trees where possible
• Clear gutters and drains
• Trim low or overhanging branches that could cause damage in strong winds

For assistance from NSW SES, call 132 500.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 000 immediately.
Stay safe, everyone. 🌩️⚡️

⚠⚠ Weather Update ⚠⚠
The Bureau of Meteorology have released the updated warning area for potential Severe Thunderstorms this afternoon.

Flash flooding and storm damage are the main risks with the forecast thunderstorms.

Thunderstorm activity is forecast to bring isolated dangerous thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 125 km/hr and giant hailstones up to 5cm in diameter.

While more likely on the Queensland side of the border, tornados are a watchpoint for border communities in the Northern Tablelands. Tornadoes can range in size from a few metres to around one kilometre in diameter. They have extreme winds and with an intense updraught are capable of lifting heavy objects such as cars and can cause extensive damage.

We are urging the community to prepare now before the forecast storm hits. People in the forecast areas should tie down loose items outside their homes, clear their gutters and trim any overhanging branches now before the weather is due to hit.

Download the Hazards Near Me app to stay across the latest information and warnings.

If you do need assistance from the NSW SES please give us a call on 132 500, and if your situation is an emergency always call 000.

Thanks everyone, please stay safe.

DANGEROUS CONDITIONS – COFFS HARBOUR HINTERLAND
DO NOT TRAVEL ON BACK ROADS

The NSW SES is urging all residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel in the areas of Eastern Dorrigo Way, Brooklana, Ulong and Lowanna.

Multiple flood rescues have already occurred. Tragically, there have been fatalities

A B-double truck has tipped and is blocking Eastern Dorrigo Way – road access is severely compromised.

These roads are extremely dangerous right now. You may not see floodwater or damage until it's too late.

👉 Reconsider your need to travel
👉 Avoid all non-essential trips through these areas. Roads have restrictions, signage and warnings that need to be heeded
👉 Check LiveTraffic for updates
👉 Every time someone risks it, they put themselves and our volunteers in danger.

Please don’t add to the emergency – stay safe, stay off these roads..

⚠ PUMP AND LIVESTOCK FLOOD ALERT ⚠

The NSW SES New England region have advised farmers along the Gwydir, Namoi, Peel and Severn Rivers to consider lifting pumps and moving livestock to higher ground ahead of Tropical Cyclone Alfred making landfall this weekend.

Expected rainfall up to 150mm across the region over the weekend could see river rises in some of our catchments, meaning low-lying areas along these rivers may be impacted by floodwater.

Visit www.hazardwatch.gov.au for the latest details, or download the HazardsNearMe app on your phone to have the warnings in your fingertips.

Please be safe as the cyclone turns west ansd hits northern inland NSW and if you need the assistance of the NSW SES - contact us on 132 500 for assistance.
