Brisbane Moreton Bay Region, Queensland Foster and Kinship Care and Agency partners came together today to say thankyou to Foster and Kinship Carers.
Foster and Kinship Carers provide love, support, hope and the promise of a brighter future when children need it the most. They provide a safe place where children can heal, a warm hug, a kind caring smile and a family where they can grow.

We thank you !

Yesterday QFKC participated in a fishbowl discussion to mark Global Parent day. The theme was ‘Together for Parents’ and the discussion focussed on areas such as why it it’s important for parents themselves to advocate for change and how bringing the voice of parents into groups of workers in the field can create better practices and models.
QFKC was able to share examples of how embedding the voice of parents into programs we run, has had such a positive impact, this has included having a parent participate in panels during Getting Ready to Start training to talk about their lived experience and having parents voices included in the development of training around Reunification and Family time.

Carers feedback to QFKC after hearing directly from parents has always been positive with lasting impacts - as stated by one of our parent panel members, children are not required to divide their love, they get to multiple it when cared for by a foster or kinship carer family. We heard beautiful stories today from parents where they have life long relationships with carers who have helped them to achieve reunification and who remain a central part of their lives.
We know that carers appreciate receiving support and advice from other carers which is the premise behind our QFKC support team and why QFKC’s Management Committee are all carers themselves - lived experience is so important. If parents too had the opportunity to be supported by another parent who had experienced the system, this has the potential to help another parent navigate a complex system they may be unable to do on their own, to have hope and to have their own children reunified. We thank the Family Inclusion network for the opportunity to participate in today’s very important discussions. Children and young people need the system to work together so that they can experience better outcomes and discussions like today remind us of the importance of this.

Lets celebrate Foster and Kinship Care Week in Queensland
It is recognising the important role Foster and Kinship Carers have in your community.
Are you aware that many Foster Carers continue to share the lives of the children they once cared for when they become adults because as we know being cared about, protected and loved is something that all children and adults need and caring relationships often don’t just go away when a child turns 18.
Foster and Kinship Carers are there when children need safe homes, safe places where they are accepted, loved and cared for and about until they either return safely to their parents or the decision is made they need to stay in the care of Foster and Kinship Carers.
To all the Foster and Kinship Carers in Queensland, we hope you have a wonderful week, you are amazing, your commitment, your care, your love and desire to make a difference is important.

Yesterday, QFKC had the pleasure of attending the launch of the audiobook *It's Never Too Early to Talk About Child Sexual Abuse Prevention* at Caloundra Library as part of the Project Paradigm initiative.

It was inspiring to hear from speakers including the Principal Child and Family Commissioner for Queensland, Luke Twyford, and QPS Commander Joanne Cameron APM, Commander of Human Exploitation, who shared a common message: keeping children safe starts with conversations.

One of the things we found most exciting about this resource is its practical approach. We know that conversations about child sexual abuse prevention can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming. This audiobook helps make those conversations easier by providing simple questions that parents, carers and families can ask before play dates, sleepovers and other activities.

Questions such as who will be supervising the children, what the arrangements are, and how children will be kept safe can make a real difference. By normalising these conversations, we create safer environments for children and give adults the confidence to speak openly about child safety.

At QFKC, we are passionate about supporting carers to have the knowledge, tools and confidence they need to keep children safe. We encourage our community to explore this valuable resource and continue the important conversations that help protect children.

Because when it comes to child safety, it's never too early to start the conversation.
