Behind the scenes at Melaleuca, something beautiful is taking shape. 🌿

A big shoutout to the remarkable artist Axel, who is currently bringing breathtaking, life-size portraits to life.

Both his raw artistic talent and his personal life journey are truly one of a kind.

This Refugee week, many other incredible artists are showing up with their unique works too.

πŸ“’ Important heads-up for our Darwin community. Share it with your friends and community.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest
technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile
devices.
It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we
need to test the system across Australia.
On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones,
tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
The test times across Australian time zones are:
* 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
* 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
* 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that
lasts about 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or cause you or
a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or
switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in
your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual
disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and
others safe.

A big thank you to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Jinson Anto Charls MLA for hosting such a fantastic Africa Day celebration at Parliament House! 🌍✨

The whole place was buzzing with energy, joy, and unity. This year was extra special as it marked 63 Years of Unity, Integration and Development, while also spotlighting the official African Union theme: "Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063." 🀝🌱

Our local African communities absolutely kept the house alive! The cultural dances, rhythmic music, and stunning, colorful traditional outfits were beautiful to watch and brought everyone together. πŸ’ƒβ€οΈ

It was a wonderful opportunity to pause, recognize, and thank our incredible African communities for their valuable contributions right here across the Northern Territory and Australia. 🌟

At Melaleuca, we are so lucky to see these stories of strength and new beginnings every single day as people make the Territory home while keeping their culture alive and proud.

Together, we really are building a stronger, more connected community! πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’›

In October 2026, the Australian Government is launching AusAlert , a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It’s a fast and reliable way to help communities to be informed and better prepared during local and national emergencies. It’s just one of the many ways the Australian Government and state and territory emergency services organisations are helping to keep Australians safer.
