Get ready before 1 July 2026

Does your business send SMS appointment reminders, booking confirmation or service updates to customers?

Important changes to SMS Sender ID rules are coming into effect from 1 July 2026.

If your business name appears as the sender of SMS messages (known as a branded Sender ID), you must register it. The new requirements are designed to help protect business and customers from SMS scams and impersonation.

Businesses that continue to use an unregistered Sender ID after 1 July 2026 may have their messages labelled as ‘Unverified’ and grouped with other unverified messages, including potential scam messages.

Learn more about the new requirements on the Australian Communications and Media Authority

If you require additional assistance understanding the changes, contact your local Territory Business Advisor.

Pedalling towards growth with Territory Business Advisor support 🚲

Territory Business Advisor, Robyn Secrett recently caught up with Territory sisters Trudi and Kerri, owners of the iconic Cheekies Party Bike - Darwin, to see how the business has grown since their last session.

When they first met, Trudi and Kerri were focused on day-to-day operations, leaving little time to work on the business. Together, they developed a practical 2026 marketing and social media plan using AI to identify key events, public holidays, and cruise ship arrivals to make the most of Darwin’s busy tourism season.

They also explored opportunities increase visibility through tourism and promotional networks, such as the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, Tourism Top End, and the COTA NT Seniors Card Program. This helped the business attract new customers, including senior travellers, conference groups and reunion groups.

Today, Cheekies Party Bike continues to be one of Darwin's favourite tourism experiences, bringing locals and visitors together for a unique ride through the Top End.

If you're looking to grow, adapt or explore new opportunities, our Territory Business Advisors can help.

Growth is taking root on the Tiwi Islands 🌱

A recent visit to Tiwi Plantations highlighted the exciting future of the Tiwi forestry sector as the plantation moves into its second rotation of planting Eucalyptus pellita.

The expansion is creating long-term opportunities for local jobs, skills development and sustainable career pathways for Tiwi people, while supporting economic growth across the region.

It was fantastic to see the strong partnerships already in place to support workforce participation, including the important work being delivered through the Tiwi Islands Training and Employment Board and industry stakeholders.

The Tiwi Forestry Workforce Plan 2026–2030 and Tiwi Islands Community Workforce Plan 2025–2027 will help guide future workforce development, strengthen local participation and support long-term economic opportunities across the Tiwi Islands.

If you need support with workforce planning and development, our Territory Business Advisors are here to help.

Backing local business means backing Territorians.

The Back a Territorian campaign is shining a spotlight on the small businesses, family-run enterprises and local operators that help keep the Territory strong.

Small and medium businesses make up 99% of all Territory businesses. They create local jobs, support communities and play a vital role in the Territory economy.

Whether it’s your local café, tradie, retailer or service provider choosing local helps keep money in the Territory and supports fellow Territorians.

You’ll see the campaign rolling out across social media, YouTube, radio, television and streaming services over the coming months.
