The National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre was established as a result of the response to the Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005. The aim is to enhance surge capacity and provide clinical and academic leadership towards disaster and trauma care. The Centre is funded by the Australian Government and is a key component of their disaster and emergency medical response. This ensures that the To

🌟 Strengthening disaster preparedness through practical planning 🌟

Participants in the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Training developed sub-divisional disaster management plans to support local preparedness, coordination and health emergency response capability across Central Division.

➡️ The 4-day training focused on climate change adaptation, disaster risk management and health emergency planning, and was delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Medical Services - Fiji (MHMS) and NCCTRC’s Public Health Operations in Emergencies for National Strengthening in the Indo-Pacific and Regional Engagement Program .

🗣️ Fiji MHMS Deputy Secretary Public Health, Dr Tevita Qoriniasi, opened the training and shared insights into Fiji's recent disaster experiences and preparedness priorities.

🤝 femLINKpacific and Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation also contributed to the training, reinforcing the importance of inclusive disaster risk reduction and planning that considers the needs of women, people with disability and other vulnerable communities who may face increased risk during emergencies.

Funded by the Australian Government, the training reflects a shared commitment to strengthening health emergency preparedness and disaster resilience across the Indo-Pacific.

The NCCTRC was on the ground at Barunga Festival over the weekend, where our team established a pop-up diphtheria vaccination clinic.

This deployment supports the ongoing public health efforts to strengthen community protection against the vaccine-preventable disease.

The NCCTRC embedded with Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation staff and helped deliver vaccination services to festival attendees.

Congratulations to 10 health logisticians who recently completed the AUSMAT Health Logistics course in . 👏

The course brought together 6 members, alongside 2 New Zealand Medical Assistance Team (NZMAT) members and 2 Papua New Guinea Emergency Medical Team (PNG EMT) members.

🤝 and EMT’s participation highlights the importance of regional collaboration in strengthening health emergency response capabilities across the Asia-Pacific.

Facilitated by the Emergency Management and Logistics team, the Australian Government-funded course equipped participants with advanced skills and specialist operational knowledge required to support deployments, including the construction and operation of an AUSMAT EMT field hospital.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and extensive practical exercises, participants navigated a range of operational and environmental challenges designed to strengthen deployment readiness. 🌟

The was delighted to welcome delegates from the Foreign Defence Service Attachés and Advisers Group (SAAG) Partner Program.

The program brought together representatives from Brazil, Chile, France, Greece, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States of America to gain insight into the Northern Territory’s unique strategic and operational environment.

During their visit to , the NCCTRC Disaster Preparedness and Response team provided a tour of the NCCTRC Headquarters, showcasing its deployable capabilities. Delegates gained valuable insight into AUSMAT’s activation processes and the resources required to maintain operational readiness.

The NCCTRC Trauma Service team also presented the Centre’s trauma and critical care capabilities, highlighting its role in supporting remote and regional health services across the .

The NCCTRC’s Trauma Service team, based at the Royal Darwin Hospital, recently delivered the Remote Pre-Hospital Trauma and Disaster Course (RPHTDC) in .

This immersive 2-day course blends theory and practical skills, equipping participants with the essential knowledge to manage trauma and disaster situations in challenging pre-hospital environments.

Congratulations to 15 healthcare professionals who recently completed the Neonatal and Paediatric Aeromedical Residential course at Charles Darwin University . 👏

Delivered in partnership with the , Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT and CareFlight Top End, the intensive 4-day course provided participants with an in-depth exploration of the aeromedical environment through classroom learning, skills rotations and simulation-based exercises.

The course forms part of CDU’s Master and Graduate Certificate of Aeromedical Retrieval programs, reflecting a shared commitment between the NCCTRC and the university to strengthening capability and collaborative partnerships in health emergency response.

Over the weekend, the NCCTRC Strategic Events team partnered with St John NT and All Good Project to support festivalgoers at Tourism and Events NT’s 2026 BASSINTHEGRASS. 🎶

A dedicated medical tent—equipped with two resuscitation bays and staffed by rotating health professionals—provided essential on-site care throughout the event.

Congratulations to 20 participants who recently completed the Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMS) Advanced course in . 👏

Facilitated by the NCCTRC Education team, the 2-day course explored health responses to major incidents, covering command and control, safety, communication, assessment, triage, treatment and transport.

Through scenario-based learning and practical application, participants strengthened their leadership and coordination skills in high-pressure environments.

The course brought together senior healthcare professionals and emergency responders from across Australia, further preparing them to effectively manage major incidents and mass casualty events.
