CHRIS HEMSWORTH WILD STATE PARTNERS WITH TATTS FINKE DESERT RACE ON GLOBAL SCREEN PRODUCTIONS

Screen Territory welcomes the announcement that Chris Hemsworth and Ben Grayson’s production company, Wild State, has entered into an exclusive partnership with the iconic Tatts Finke Desert Race to develop a slate of scripted and unscripted projects centred on one of Australia’s most legendary motorsport events.

The collaboration includes development of a narrative feature film inspired by the Tatts Finke Desert Race, alongside unscripted content documenting the event and freestyle motocross champion Robbie Maddison’s first attempt at the race as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2026.

The announcement reflects the growing profile and capability of the Northern Territory screen industry, and the increasingly important role screen production is playing in amplifying the Territory’s broader economic, tourism and destination marketing objectives.

As the scale and ambition of productions filming in the Territory continues to grow, opportunities are emerging to leverage screen storytelling alongside major events and tourism experiences to build global awareness of the Northern Territory and drive long-term economic outcomes.

The Tatts Finke Desert Race is already one of the Territory’s most iconic events, attracting thousands of visitors to Central Australia each year. Through Screen Territory and Tourism and Events NT’s integrated approach, this partnership will showcase the Territory’s extraordinary landscapes, adventurous spirit and internationally recognised events to audiences around the world.

ROGUE ONE SELECTED AS DIGITAL ORIGINAL PROJECT

Congratulations to Territorians Mema Munro, Cian McCue and Rebecca Parker who have been selected as one of five teams nationally for the 2025 Digital Originals initiative with their project Rogue One.

Set in the Top End, Rogue One is a sharp and chaotic story where community policing collides with local politics, youth outsmart the cops, and the neighbourhood BBQ holds more intel than HQ.

Designed and delivered in partnership with Screen Australia for SBS and NITV, Digital Originals provides emerging creators with a structured pathway into the screen industry — supporting bold, original voices to develop audience-ready short-form scripted series.

This is an exciting achievement for these Territorian creatives and a testament to the strength of emerging screen storytelling coming out of the Northern Territory.

Congratulations Mema, Cian and Rebecca — we can’t wait to see Rogue One develop.

Further, SBS Australia, NITV and Screen Australia have announced the return of seventh edition of Digital Originals, a leading initiative for emerging creatives in Australia, with applications now open 2026 and we encourage Territorian filmmakers to apply!

More information about Digital Originals 7 and how to apply is available on the Screen Australia website.

CIAN MCCUE NAMED IF RISING TALENT 2026 PRODUCER

Screen Territory congratulates Darwin-based producer Cian Mungatj McCue on his selection as an IF Rising Star Producer.
Cian is a driving force in culturally grounded First Nations storytelling, with a practice built on collaboration, community engagement and a deep respect for culture and language. As founder and director of Moogie Down Productions, his work spans film, design, animation and visual communication, bringing together creative disciplines to support strong, authentic storytelling.

His recent credits reflect both range and impact — from producing Belly (ABC and NITV), to associate producing and leading Indigenous community engagement on Deadloch Season 2 and Territory, co-producing The First Inventors, and working as a shooter producer on Outback Ringer Season 2. Across each project, Cian continues to elevate First Nations voices on screen and behind the camera.

In 2025, Cian also co-founded Dumulgarra Stories, alongside NT casting director Sarah Price, delivering practical, experience-led services that are helping reshape how productions engage with First Nations cast, crew and creatives.

This recognition is well deserved, and we look forward to seeing Cian’s continued contribution to the Northern Territory screen industry and beyond.

UNDER TERRITORY STARS: WOLFRAM OPENS DECKCHAIR CINEMA 2026

Screen Territory was thrilled to see the opening of the 2026 Deckchair Cinema season, launching over 200 nights of film under Darwin’s tropical skies, with the NT Premiere of WOLFRAM.

This special NT screening, which saw Warwick Thornton and Steven McGregor in attendance, followed the films’ world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival and official competition selection at the Berlin International Film Festival (one of only 22 films in competition and the only Australian film selected to compete).

Supported with Production Finance through the Screen Territory Funding Program, WOLFRAM is directed by celebrated Territorian filmmaker Warwick Thornton and written by the NT’s own Steven McGregor and David Tranter.

The film brings audiences back to 1930s Central Australia in a powerful continuation of the story world first introduced in Thornton’s film, Sweet Country.

Shot on location at Ooraminna Station and around Alice Springs, the production highlights both the unique landscapes of Central Australia and the depth of creative talent in the Northern Territory, while centring around a compelling new historical perspective through the women and children of the Alyawarra family, led by matriarch Pansy, played by the incredible Deborah Mailman.

Deckchair Cinema’s 32nd season marks the arrival of the dry season and remains a cornerstone of Darwin’s screen culture, and we couldn’t be happier that it launched with this incredible NT production.
