🏗️ The new Civic Centre continues to take shape, with significant progress made on the building's structure in recent months.

Construction crews have continued building upwards, with work on the central core, walls, columns, floor slabs and scaffolding progressing across the site.

City of Darwin Elected Members recently visited the site to see firsthand how the project is coming to life. During the visit, they stood on Level 4 of the building and viewed the central lift core, which has now reached Level 8.

The project is supported by the innovative Lubeca Jumpform system – a specialised formwork system that moves up the building as it grows. By using this technology, local workers are gaining valuable experience with advanced construction methods used on major high-rise projects across Australia.

The new Civic Centre will replace the existing building, which has served the community for more than 50 years, creating a modern and sustainable hub for residents, visitors and Council services.

Once complete, the development will include a larger City Library, community and event spaces, additional parking, and a public plaza connecting Civic Park and Cavenagh Street.

Delivered by City of Darwin and constructed by DCOH, the project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

City of Darwin, partnering with xHalEvents, supported reconciliation through the delivery of four reconciliation themed events.

🎤 Voices for Reconciliation with Darwin Beach Choir – We had a blast singing this years song, Beds are Burning by Midnight Oil mashed up with John Farnham’s You’re the Voice.

🌳 Reconciliation Week Lunchtime at Raintree Park – We were welcomed by Larrakia Man James Parfitt and were then treated to by a performance from Melanie Mununggurr and her band and collaborators.

🍳 Reconciliation Breakfast BBQ – Our hard working operations team gathered for a breakfast BBQ and an address from guest speaker Timmy Duggan from Hoops for Health.

🦎Family Fun Day at Casuarina Library – This was a fantastic family day that included so many hands-on activities such as animal encounters, damper demonstration, singing, story time & Tiny Threads.

City of Darwin believe that everyone in the organisation is responsible for reconciliation, and only with shared responsibility can we achieve meaningful and lasting change.

A huge thanks to all the people who got involved and supported our commitment to be All In for reconciliation in 2026.

🛴 You might notice something new around Darwin City Centre: Beam has rolled out new parking decals to help riders spot the best places to park their e-scooter or e-bike.

While riders can still park neatly close to their destination, these decals highlight preferred spots that help keep footpaths clear, improve accessibility, and make it easier for everyone to move around the city. 💛

✔️Next time you ride, keep an eye out and choose a decal when you can.

Ride smart. Park thoughtfully.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for Bat Night at East Point last week🦇

We had a fantastic turnout, with attendees hearing from local experts about the fascinating lives of bats, the threats they face, and the important work of bat rescue, care and rehabilitation. Meeting the flying foxes and microbats was a highlight for all ages!

Key tips and takeaways:
• Support bats and other wildlife at home by providing a variety of native plant species that fruit and flower throughout the year
• Keep cats contained to protect wildlife
• Never touch bats - They can carry deadly lyssavirus, which can be transmitted through scratches and bites.
• If you come across sick, injured or orphaned wildlife, reach out to one of Darwin's licensed wildlife rescue groups below:
o Darwin Wildlife Sanctuary - 0473 992 581
o Wildcare Inc NT - 08 8988 6121 or 0408 885 341
o Woolybutt Wildlife Rescue - 0409 941 584
