Phuong Nguyen, one of the many dedicated Vietnamese Community School Liaison Officers, was honoured to share the history, culture, and journey of the Vietnamese community with members of the Brisbane History Group. It was more than a presentation about the past—it was an opportunity to build bridges of understanding, friendship, and respect between communities. The Vietnamese story is one of resilience, gratitude, and contribution, but it is also a story that now forms part of the rich multicultural fabric of Brisbane and Australia. By coming together, listening to one another, and sharing our experiences, we strengthen the bonds that unite us. Our diversity is our strength, and through these conversations we continue to create a more connected, inclusive, and harmonious community for future generations.

A productive meeting between the Honourable Milton Dick MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Kieu Oanh Do, President of the Vietnamese Community in Australia – Queensland Chapter. The discussion focused on community issues, public safety, and ways to strengthen support for local residents. Today, the Vietnamese Community School Liaison Officer Tuan Le attended Refugee Week 2026 at Glenala State High School, where he delivered an inspiring presentation to students on the journey and contributions of refugees in Australia. Through sharing the story of the Vietnamese refugee community in Queensland, Tuan highlighted the courage, resilience, and determination of those who arrived seeking freedom and a better future. His presentation encouraged students to listen to the stories of others, embrace diversity, and understand that behind every refugee is a person, a family, and a story worth hearing. Events like these demonstrate the important role Vietnanese Community School Liaison Officers play in building understanding, strengthening connections between schools and multicultural communities, and promoting respect, inclusion, and belonging for all.

Today marks another proud chapter for the Vietnamese Community United Dragons Team as we celebrate our 14th year participating in this wonderful Dragon Boat Festival.
This event is much more than a race. It is a celebration of unity, friendship, culture, and community spirit, bringing together people from all walks of life, different cultures, ages, and backgrounds to paddle as one.
A heartfelt thank you to the Hakka Association of Queensland for their dedication in organising another outstanding festival. Thank you to all sponsors, dignitaries, schools, community organisations, volunteers, photographers, supporters, and our friends from Typhoon Brisbane for helping make this event such a success.
These events remind us that when communities come together with respect and friendship, we become stronger, more connected, and more united.
Most importantly, congratulations to our incredible Vietnamese Community United Dragons Team for bringing home another cup for our community. Your teamwork, determination, sportsmanship, and commitment have once again made our community proud.

Together with his wife, Minh Ha Tran, UQ alum Dr Alan van Tran (Doctor of Medicine ’83) has supported more than 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander UQ students.

Dr Tran created the Dr Alan van Tran and Minh Ha Tran Indigenous Health Education Scholarship in 2013. This choice was shaped by his own experiences of inequality as a military surgeon and medical educator in Sài Gòn (now Ho Chi Minh City), treating some of the most vulnerable people in society.

As a Vietnamese refugee in Australia, Dr Tran benefited significantly from the support of UQ and Professor Ralph Doherty in retraining overseas doctors. This reinforced his belief in education as a powerful enabler, grounded in his family’s resilience and determination to build a better life.

“The endowment fund is designed to last forever, and many future generations of Indigenous students will benefit,” Dr Tran said.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, All In, speaks to the shared responsibility of reconciliation. Dr Tran’s commitment to giving back to Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander students as they pursue a degree at UQ is a powerful reminder that reconciliation is an ongoing process of working together – Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians – towards a more inclusive future.

On the evening of 28 May 2026, the Queensland Police Service Graduation Ceremony for Intake 8 of 2026 was held at the Oxley Police Academy in a proud and dignified atmosphere.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the graduating recruits as they embark on their careers in public service, committed to protecting the community, upholding the law, and contributing to the safety and wellbeing of all Queenslanders.
As part of this special occasion, the Vietnamese Community in Australia – Queensland Chapter was honoured to present Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of the Queensland Police Service's longstanding support, partnership, and dedication to the Vietnamese community over the past 51 years.
The enduring relationship between the Queensland Police Service and Queensland’s multicultural communities continues to strengthen trust, foster understanding, and help build a safer, more inclusive, and united society for all.

Hôm nay cộng đồng đến thăm Corinda state High School để trao Kỷ Yếu và cùng trao đổi về việc xây dựng, gắn kết giữa nhà trường và cộng đồng người Việt tai QLD.
Hiện nay có hơn 200 em học sinh gốc Việt đang theo học tại trường. Buổi gặp gỡ đã mở ra nhiều ý tưởng ý nghĩa về các chương trình văn hoá, sinh hoạt cộng đồng, hoạt động dành cho giới trẻ và những cơ hội để các em học sinh thêm gắn bó với cộng đồng Việt Nam.
Xin chân thành cảm ơn Ban Giám Hiệu và quý thầy cô đã đón tiếp nồng hậu và luôn hỗ trợ tinh thần đa văn hoá, đoàn kết và hội nhập trong trường học. Trong thời gian tới, nhà trường và cộng đồng sẽ có thêm nhiều chương trình ý nghĩa cùng nhau đồng hành vì thế hệ trẻ tương lai.
