More than 200 firefighters have contained an inferno that has engulfed a waste facility factory overnight at North St Maryโ€™s in Sydneyโ€™s west. This amazing photo from NSW Ambulance shows the scale of the fire, which involved the explosion of a large chemical tank, which rained down on dozens of firefighters. The fire is said to be one of the biggest Fire and Rescue NSW has seen for many years. A huge shout out to all stations and firefighters involved in the mammoth firefighting effort.

๐Ÿš’Ever wondered how firefighters find hydrants so fast?
Itโ€™s not magic, itโ€™s all thanks to some clever little clues hidden in plain sight! ๐Ÿ‘€
โœ… Look down! Youโ€™ll spot markings on the road, kerb, or even on light poles, all pointing us straight to the hydrant. Hereโ€™s what they mean:
๐Ÿ”น H = Hydrant
๐Ÿ”น P = Pathway
๐Ÿ”น R = Road
๐Ÿ“ The top number tells us how many metres away the hydrant is, while the bottom number is the size of the water main in millimetres.
๐Ÿ’ก See a black line across the marker? That means the hydrant is on the opposite side of the road!
You might also notice green โ€˜Hโ€™ signs or a blue reflective catโ€™s eye on the road, these are secondary markers to help us find hydrants day or night.
๐Ÿ‘€ Your mission: Next time youโ€™re walking or driving through your neighbourhood, see if you can spot the hydrant markers near your home! Knowing where they are can save precious seconds in an emergency.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Bonus tip: Keep the area around hydrants and markers clear, it helps us help you when every second counts.

Make sure your family is prepared for anything this cold snap. Never use outdoor heaters, barbecues or charcoal pits inside your home. LPG, heat beads and other outdoor heaters emit lethal carbon monoxide which can be fatal in a confined space. For more information, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au
