NATURAL AREAS:
Fotheringham Reserve contains one of the largest intact remnant River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) woodlands in the Greater Dandenong area. Throughout the park, informative signs explain the importance of various natural features: http://www.heinejones.com.au/environmental/city-of-dandenong-bush-land-reserves/
The reserve boasts native orchids and lilies, and some beautiful n
atives like Indigofera, Hedge Wattle, Kangaroo Apple, and Hop Goodenia. There is quite a lot of birdlife around, including Grey Butcherbirds, Tawny Frogmouths, Kookaburras, and many Noisy Miners and Little Wattlebirds. Because of the wildlife, no dogs are allowed off-leash within the nature reserve, but there is an off-leash area on the other side of the fence. Check out the flora & fauna that has been seen within the reserve: https://www.inaturalist.org/places/fotheringham-reserve
Yarraman Creek runs through Oakwood Park in the north, and meanders through Fotheringham Reserve all the way down to Railway Pde. ACCESSIBLE & VERSATILE:
The EastLink bike path runs right past the nature reserve, there is a sports oval with cricket nets at the north end of the reserve and a dog park at the south. There are playgrounds at the north end and the south end of the park, and two walking bridges linking the paths to Noble Park. It's next to Yarraman train station, Eastlink Freeway, and Princes Hwy.
