Each year 20 June marks World Refugee Day - an opportunity to celebrate and honour the plight of refugees around the world. No one wants to flee their homes, but every day refugees are forced to leave and find safety elsewhere.

Let’s make a difference to the lives of refugees by showing our solidarity – we can do this by raising our voice, sharing on social media or connecting with our community.

Every person deserves to live in safety and free from violence.

Got opinions? Want to make real change? 🌍

Step into the Evatt Model United Nations Competition and debate global issues, sharpen your skills, and meet young leaders from across Australia.

The Evatt Competition runs from May to July across all Australian states and territories for students from Year 9 to 12. Teams of two delegates debate global issues through chamber sessions and negotiations, starting with three preliminary rounds. Top teams progress to Semi Finals and State/Territory Finals, with the top 15 competing for the title. Winning teams are then invited to the National Finals held in late November or early December.

This is your chance to speak up, think big, and lead the future. ✨

Check out the website for more information or scan the QR code to register. Registrations close 1 July.

This year, World Refugee Week will be celebrated from 14 to 20 June, under the theme "A Million Stories".

The theme reminds us that every refugee has their own story of fleeing and settling into a new country. However, they all share a common story of wanting to live in safety. The theme also marks one million refugees being welcomed to Australia since World War II.

City of Greater Dandenong has been a Refugee Welcome Zone since 2014 and has made a national commitment to welcome people of refugee backgrounds into the community. At Greater Dandenong Youth Services, we are committed to providing a safe space for young people from refugee backgrounds to participate in our programs and services.
