πŸ’§ CHECK YOUR GUTTERS & DRAINS πŸ’§

Blocked gutters and drains are one of the biggest causes of storm damage SES volunteers respond to.

Before heavy rains commence:
🧹 Clear leaves & debris from gutters
🚿 Check downpipes are flowing freely
πŸ’¦ Clear yard drains so water can escape safely

A few minutes of cleaning now could save thousands in water damage later.

If your home has developed mould after recent severe weather or leaks, it’s important to clean up safely and early.

🟠 Stay safe first:
β€’ Wear gloves, a mask and eye protection.
β€’ If you smell strong mould or see a large area affected, consider getting professional advice: https://www.health.qld.gov.au/public-health/disaster/public-health-advice/mould

🟠 How to clean small areas of mould:
β€’ Mix white vinegar (undiluted) in a spray bottle.
β€’ Spray directly onto the mould and let it sit for at least 10 minutes.
β€’ Wipe clean with a cloth you can wash in hot water afterwards.

🟠 Prevent regrowth:
β€’ Mix ΒΌ teaspoon of clove oil in 1 litre of water.
β€’ Lightly spray the area and leave it to dry β€” clove oil helps kill the mould spores, not just the stain.

🟠 Dry your home:
β€’ Increase ventilation by opening windows and doors when safe.
β€’ Use fans or dehumidifiers to reduce moisture.

If the mould is widespread or your home has structural damage, contact a qualified professional.
