Last night we celebrated a couple of special achievements in the brigade.

Firstly Kai Juvakka received his 20 year pin for 20 years of service to the brigade.

Then Malcolm Merchant received his 50 year pin for an incredible 50years of service to the brigade.

Too many jobs & special events to mention but a huge congratulations to them both.

We were also joined by some of our previous brigade chiefs & members to make the night super special.

Tasmania’s fire permit period will end at 2am Thursday after a bushfire season that destroyed 21 properties statewide.

The Tasmania Fire Service made the call following a review of dry conditions.

Deputy Chief Matt Lowe said major fires at Dolphin Sands and Stieglitz in late 2025 damaged homes and vehicles.

Permits are no longer required, but landowners are urged to register burns. Lowe said notifying authorities helps brigades respond if needed.

The change coincides with a delayed wine harvest.

Wine Tasmania CEO Sheralee Davies warned burns could impact vineyards, urging people to check with growers before lighting fires.

Total fire ban

🚨 TOTAL FIRE BAN TODAY – BE PREPARED. BE AWARE. STAY INFORMED. 🚨

A Total Fire Ban (TFB) is in place today for the Southern Region and Flinders Municipality from 2:00am Saturday 10 January until 2:00am Sunday 11 January.

Today is not a day to be complacent. We need our community to be prepared and aware now, not when a fire is already at your doorstep. Every Tasmanian must understand where to get reliable, real-time emergency information so they can act quickly and safely if a bushfire strikes in their local area.

The primary source of truth for bushfire warnings and emergency updates is the TasAlert app and ABC Local Radio, Tasmania’s official emergency broadcaster. This information saves lives — but only if you are connected to it.

❌ NO FIRES ARE PERMITTED IN THE OPEN
Including:
• Incinerators
• Burn-offs
• Campfires & fire pots
• Wood-fuelled barbecues

⚠️ RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Welding, grinding, machinery use, forestry operations and commercial outdoor cooking must comply with Tasmania Fire Service guidelines.

🏠 PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY & YOUR PLAN – TODAY
We urge every household to:
🔥 Download the TasALERT app
📻 Listen to ABC Local Radio — the emergency broadcaster
🏡 Prepare your property — clear gutters, reduce fuel loads and maintain defendable space
📝 Review your Bushfire Survival Plan now and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do - head to www.bushfire.tas.gov.au for all the info you need on activating your plan.

Being prepared and informed means you already have the information you need to act immediately if an emergency occurs in your local area.

🔥 HAD A FIRE RECENTLY?
Check it now — Soak it. Stir it. Soak it again.

🔥 SEE SMOKE OR FIRE?
📞 Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Please share this message with your family, friends and neighbours — the actions you take today could save lives tomorrow.
