King Island Council The King Island Council was established on the 19th December 1907 and continues to deliver a wide range of services to the local community.

King Island is known for its fresh produce, pristine beaches, rich agricultural land and fishing stocks. The main industries are agricultural, fishing and manufacturing including cheese production and kelp harvesting, which contribute largely to the local economy. Two world class golf courses are driving the visitor economy and complementing some of the island’s other attractions such as recreational trails, bird-watching, fishing, surfing, arts and food events.

🚒 KING ISLAND AIRPORT EMERGENCY EXERCISE ✈️

Council will be conducting an emergency response exercise at King Island Airport to help strengthen airport safety and emergency preparedness.

The exercise will simulate an aircraft incident on the airfield, providing an opportunity for emergency response personnel to practice their procedures, test coordination and identify ways to continually improve emergency response arrangements.

📅 Date: 21 October 2026
⏰ Time: 6:00pm
📍 Location: King Island Airport

Community members may notice emergency response personnel and vehicles at the airport during the exercise. Please be assured that this is a planned training activity.

Exercises like this play an important role in supporting the safety of passengers, airport staff and the wider King Island community.

Thank you for your support as we continue working together to maintain a safe and prepared airport.

🐈 CAT MANAGEMENT AREAS DECLARED ON KING ISLAND 🌿

Notice that is hereby given King Island Council has declared designated areas of land across the Island to be Cat Management Areas.

📅 When does the declaration take effect?

The declaration comes into effect on 26 October 2026 and will remain in place until 30 June 2028.

📍 Where are the Cat Management Areas?

The declared areas are identified in the official maps and coordinates provided in Attachment 1 (map) and Attachment 2 (coordinates). The areas relate to locations where King Island Thornbills and Scrubtits have been recorded.

We encourage residents and cat owners to review the information and check whether their property falls within a declared area.

🐾 Why does this matter?

Cats can pose a risk to native birds and other wildlife. Responsible Cat Management is one way we can all contribute to protecting King Island’s special natural environment.
