Thank a First Responder Day
10th June 2026

Thanks to all who give up their time to respond to emergency incidents in our local community

Welcome to Winter!!

We hope everyone is still intact after the windy weather. Plenty of rain for the farmers and your rain water tanks. We got to stay home with no calls for weather or trees down so a good result.

Stay safe on the wet roads. You know you hardly lose any time driving just 5kmh slower. A trip to Adelaide would take less than 10mins longer. 220km to Adelaide at an average of 100kmh would take 2hrs 12mins, at an average of 95kmh it would take 2hrs 19 mins after all, you do need to slow down through Lochiel, Pt Wakefield and then through to the City, taking the Highway and then Northern expressway to Port Rd. Or is that too much Maths for today??

The Fire Danger Season has now ended in our Mid North District but please remain vigilant in rural areas. As the weather starts to cool down and households start to use combustion heaters and pot belly stoves, a reminder to please ensure you have checked and cleaned your flue before use.

As we commemorate ANZAC Day, we remember those who have served, those who have fallen and those who continue to serve to make this country the great country it is with the freedoms we take for granted far too often.

Tonight, Crystal Brook CFS undertook their 3 yearly RCR Upskill under the watchful and enthusiastic eyes of Tappy from R4 Training and Dave Z from State Training. After a quick theory session at the station, the crew headed out to do some practical activities .. ie.. cut stuff up. We started by revisiting stabilisation, before deglazing (taking the glass out) and then got into some new and usual processes of cutting, spreading, ramming, and crushing. The usual road crash sounds of banging and breaking as components come free. A great night for all to revisit and refresh. Cheers to Tappy and Z for the overtime they put into training others. Some Pics attached thanks to Nicole for taking.
Stay safe out there

While some regions end their Fire Danger season soon on Wed 15th April, the Mid North District does NOT end until and including, Thursday 30th April.
It's also school holidays time, so please drive carefully on the roads, take breaks, don't speed, don't mix drugs and alcohol with driving and wear a seatbelt!

The Spencer Group of which Crystal Brook CFS is part of, is looking at possibly posting "Fire Water" signs throughout our group. If Farmers (in our area) who have Tanks suitable for use as "Fire Water" and are interested in possibly having a sign posted indicating the location of their water source, then please post your name below. This is to gain approx numbers and further consultation and information will be provided to those interested and suitable for showing "Fire Water" signs.
Thanks Crystal Brook CFS.

Crystal Brook CFS is a Road Crash Rescue Brigade. All members get training in how to respond to a Road Crash but we also have 10 current Road Crash Operators who are trained to use tools to cut, spread, ram, lift what's left of a vehicle to enable safe extrication of any casualties. All of these are also first aid trained including CPR, Injury Management, Casualty Care and Handling and often work alongside SAAS and MedStar. 1 member is also part of the CFS RCR State Training team.
RAA and the CFS Foundation have been and continue to be great supporters of RCR Training.

Could you see yourself doing this?? Join Now.

Lives can change in seconds on our roads and when they do, SA Country Fire Service volunteers are often the first to respond. 🚗🔥

The CFS Road Crash Rescue Trailer, proudly sponsored by RAA through their support of the CFS Foundation, is travelling across the state delivering vital, hands-on training to our dedicated volunteers.

This specialised training equips crews with the critical skills needed to respond to serious road crash emergencies...helping them work quickly, safely and effectively when every second matters.

Together, through the powerful partnership between RAA and the CFS Foundation, we are strengthening our volunteers, protecting our communities, and helping save lives across South Australia. 💛
