Yarra Road Primary School

Yarra Road Primary School Our values, kindness, safety, respect and our motto ‘Enjoying the road to success’ underpin all we do Miss Alice G. In 1948, the school residence was built.

Yarra Road Primary School began in a single classroom amongst the native flora of its current site in 1925. Broad was appointed as the first teacher of the school. Yarra Road continued as a single-teacher school until 1958, when a second classroom was opened. The school's enrolments gradually increased between the 1960s and 1990s. In the early 2000s, a two-stage building program gave the school a

long awaited upgrade. In August 2004, a fire destroyed four of the older classrooms. Outstanding work from the Wonga Park CFA prevented the fire from spreading. With great support from our neighbouring schools and businesses, the school set out to replace the lost classrooms and replace the resources that had been built up over many years. The people of Yarra Road showed their community spirit as they all worked feverishly to get the school operational again. Beginning in 2009 and completed in 2011, the school was further enhanced by the construction of the Bruce Bower 21st Century Learning Centre as part of the Commonwealth Government's 'Building the Education Revolution' program. The Bower Centre features flexible learning spaces and facilities for learning technologies for our students. The building was named for Mr Bruce Bower, Principal from 2004 to 2012. Yarra Road Primary School now boasts an enrolment of 318. We proudly continue to provide quality education, sporting and social experiences for its students and community. Our motto, 'Enjoying the Road to Success', encapsulates the history, culture, achievements and hopes for the future of all students, staff and community members who have made Yarra Road Primary School the school it is today and will continue to be in the future.

Today we are celebrating Education Support Staff Day.

At Yarra Road we are are truly blessed to have an amazing team of Education Support staff.

Kate, Charlee and Shelley are the face of our school greeting and supporting the entire community and keeping are school running smoothly every day. 💜

Caroline and Lisa serve our students with love every Friday, making Friday lunch order day a highlight of every week. Not forgetting Lisa when she is in the uniform store keeping our students looking sharp and ready to learn. 💜

But how do we ever adequately thank the efforts of Carly, Cathy, Erica, Luella, Drew, Ethan, Rachael, Tanya, Kerry, Macarena and Helen? They have an endless list of roles they perform every day, alongside our teachers and most importantly for our students. The Greek term ‘paidagogos’ translates to ‘guide of the child’ - a trusted figure who guides a child’s learning and acts as a personal support system. We are eternally grateful, as are our students and parents for our special team of paidagogos.💜

In short, thank you to all our ES staff for all you do for our students, our teachers and our beautiful community here at Yarra Road. 💜

Anzac Day – Lest We Forget

Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice and spirit of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.

Anzac Day is a time for reflection. We think of those who landed at Gallipoli, far from home, and all who have served in conflicts and peacekeeping missions since. Their bravery, resilience and mateship are values that continue to shape who we are as Australians.

As a school, we also reflect on how these values are lived out in our everyday actions—through kindness, respect, teamwork and looking out for one another.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Today we paid our respect to the men and women in our community and beyond who have served our country in the armed forces, by holding a special Anzac Day Assembly.

Our school captains conducted our service with support from our vice captains, Mrs Macrae, Miss Ross and Mrs Cooper.

It was wonderful to see our parents and grandparents, including some that have and are serving join us for this assembly. We were also proud to witness our entire student body display the outpost respect during this service.
