I recently shared my deeply personal and devastating journey through several miscarriages with the new Hills magazine for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Miscarriage affects up to one in five pregnancies so I know I am not alone in my experience, though I know first-hand how isolating it can be. I hope that by sharing my story I can help others navigate these traumatic experiences and find love and purpose where there is also grief.

I am thrilled to let you know that I was elected unopposed as Mayor of Adelaide Hills Council. This was announced in the South Australian Government Gazette on 15 September.

I believe this a community vote of confidence in the conduct and effectiveness of Adelaide Hills Council over the past four years.

Thank you to our community and community groups who have worked so positively with us — especially in this bushfire recovery and pandemic period — on a range of projects that continue to make the Adelaide Hills district such a great place to live, work and play.

Now, it's time to turn your attention to voting for your local elected members — ballot papers will start arriving early next week!

From bushfires to pandemic and the ongoing pressures of modern life, it's no secret that our community has been through a lot over the last few years. Today is R U OK? Day but every day is the perfect time to check in with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours to see how they're going. You just never know, those three words could be life changing.

After more than three decades representing his local community, I extend my thanks to Cr Ian Bailey as he ends his service ahead of the 2022 council elections. Cr Bailey has made significant contributions to Council and our communities during his tenure thanks to his deep local knowledge and broad connections. After almost 20 years as an elected member with Adelaide Hills Council, Cr Andrew Stratford has decided it's time to step away. Cr Stratford's contributions have been invaluable and I'm grateful for his support during my term as Mayor. We are lucky to have such passionate leaders in the Hills — people who aren't afraid to step up and make a difference for our community.
