🔥 1st of June is Smoke Alarm Action Day 🔥

Fire and Rescue NSW, alongside fire services across Australia, is urging every household to check that their smoke alarms in their home are working

Last year, nearly half of all homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW had no working smoke alarm. That’s a heartbreaking statistic and also a reminder that a working smoke alarm is your best early warning in a fire. It gives you and your loved ones the vital seconds needed to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

If you’re unsure, unable to check, or just want expert advice, we’re here to help.

With cooler months incoming don't forget to check your smoke alarms. The use of heaters and dryers during this colder period always creates a higher risk within the community, so share this around so we can get the message out there. Also make it part of a conversation with your family and friends.

Fire and Rescue NSW is advising the community that the Cowra Shire is under EXTREME fire danger and a total fire ban for tomorrow, Monday, 26/1/26.
Toban begins at midnight tonight, and fines are enforceable.
Under the TOTAL fire ban:
🚫 No fires to be lit in the open
🚫 No solid fuel or open pit BBQ’s
🚫 No burn-offs or incinerators
🔥 These conditions mean any fire will start easily, spread rapidly, and be difficult to contain.
✔️Stay alert, monitor official warnings.
✔️ Prepare your property
✔️keep access to water sources clear
✔️ check on neighbours
✔️ Report any smoke or fire immediately to 000. 🔥🚒

Thank you for understanding, and have a safe Australia Day.

WORKING SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES

….but a smoke detector can only protect you if it’s working.

FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO STAY SAFE

👉 Test it monthly - Press the test button. If it doesn’t sound, it won’t save you.
🔋 Change the battery - At least once a year, or immediately if it chirps.
🧽 Keep it clean - Lightly vacuum dust and insects from the vents at least twice a year.
🪦 Replace when needed - Smoke alarms don’t last forever, they should be replaced every 10 years.
