Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School

Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School Set on a picturesque seven acres of farmland in the heart of Cowes, Phillip Island Outside, the students have access to a range of play and exploration areas.

Set on a picturesque seven acres of farmland, our state of the art building comprises eight flexible classroom spaces which open onto outside areas and break out spaces, an inviting library and discovery centre as well as staff and administration areas. These include a new oval, covered basketball court and adventure playgrounds. Sustainability and biodiversity are key foci of our school and this

is reflected in the inclusion of solar panels and water tanks in the design of our new buildings. Alongside our landscapers, students, families and staff have also contributed to the development of the grounds which include a native wildlife corridor, vegetable gardens, bush tucker gardens, an orchard, bird hide, wetlands and biodiversity areas.

Students from Grade 5/6 recently enjoyed a special visit to the residents at Phillip Island Community Care as part of their Religious Education curriculum focusing on community outreach and building connections with others.

The students spent time getting to know the residents by playing games, sharing conversations, and listening to stories about their lives and experiences. The visit gave students the opportunity to learn from older generations in a meaningful and respectful way.

The students brought along homemade baking that they had prepared at school. The delicious treats were warmly received and helped create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone involved.

Community connections is a valuable part of the RE program, encouraging students to put faith and compassion into action through service to the community.

The juniors have been learning about the symbols indigenous artists often use in their artwork to help tell their stories. They studied the beautiful artwork Aunty Heather created for our school and the symbols she used. Then they created their own symbols to represent our school or Millowl and they painted these on gumleaves from our garden...

Today we celebrated our Prep students' amazing achievement with a Milo Monkey Party! πŸ΅πŸŽ‰
The children have been working so hard learning all of their sounds, and we were excited to celebrate their success together. They enjoyed delicious cupcakes, popcorn, and lots of fun activities with their friends.
We are so proud of all their effort, enthusiasm, and progress. What a wonderful day of learning and celebration! πŸŒŸπŸ“šπŸ§πŸΏ

Today we recognised the commencement of National Reconciliation Week with some fun lunchtime activities organised by our student Fire Carriers. Showing amazing leadership they planned and umpired a cross age footy match where they focused on team work, respect and fair play. William designed and decorated a footy which was presented to the student who showed outstanding sportsmanship, inclusivity and respect for others during the game. Other students organised an art activity where students could decorate a hand so that we can create our own 'sea of hands' later in the week. We are so proud of the leadership shown by our Fire Carriers- they are leading the way and are really showing that we are ALL IN! Keep an eye out for the other activities that have been organised for the rest of Reconciliation Week!

Our Catholic school communities across the Diocese of Sale will mark National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) by deepening their understanding of our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and reflecting on how we can all contribute to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.

This year’s theme, All In, invites everyone to play a part in building respectful relationships and a more united future.

Throughout the week, students and staff across our schools will engage in prayer, learning, and activities that honour and celebrate the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

A heartfelt thank you to Nagle College for the beautiful gifts presented to our school community, a handmade ceramic cross and our Catholic Education Week prayer printed on a flag. These thoughtful gifts will be treasured within our school community.

We are also so grateful for the wonderful Catholic Education Week Mass celebration held yesterday. The students and staff of Nagle College certainly β€œshined bright,” proudly reflecting the vision of their college throughout the celebration.

It was lovely to come together with representatives from schools across our diocese to celebrate all that makes Catholic education so special, faith, community, connection, and hope!
