Last night crews from Blackwood, Coromandel Valley and Eden Hills brigades were called to a structure fire in Blackwood. On arrival crews found a garden shed fully involved, threatening to spread to nearby structures and vehicles. 🏠🔥🔥

Thanks to a fast and effective response from our volunteers, the fire was contained to the shed, with only minimal damage to exposures on both sides. Fortunately residents were able to evacuate and no one was injured. 🚒🧑‍🚒

After a busy fire season, this incident provides a timely reminder that CFS is more than a bushfire service - in reality Sturt Group responds mostly to urban related incidents.

If you or someone you know is interested in helping our community by becoming a volunteer firefighter, send us a message or email [email protected] to find out more.

Hazmat incident at Coromandel Valley - 24 April 2026: Three trucks carrying approximately 15 firefighters responded to Triple Zero to attend a hazardous materials (hazmat) incident at Coromandel Valley in the south-eastern suburbs of Adelaide at 3:05 PM today.

The incident, which was attended by two specialised CFS hazmat trucks, resulted from a gardener mixing chlorine paste and dry acid to poison a tree stump.

The gardener inhaled fumes from the chemical reaction and required treatment from the SA Ambulance Service.

The spill area was isolated and has now been made safe by CFS volunteers, who have been on scene for approximately 90 minutes.

There was no risk to other people or the environment.

Always follow instructions for proper usage and make sure you’re in a well-ventilated area before mixing household chemicals.

This week’s training included a visit from an SA Ambulance crew, who spent time with our members discussing expectations and roles when working together at incidents.

As we regularly attend incidents alongside SA Ambulance, it was a valuable opportunity to become more familiar with their equipment, refine our skills, and strengthen communication on scene.

We appreciate the time taken by the crew to support our brigade and share their knowledge.
