If you haven't experienced the Arcadia II yet, here's a little glimpse from a previous cruise.

Down the tannin-dark Pieman, past ancient rainforest and the still water at Lovers Falls, out to where the river meets the wild coast at Pieman Heads. It's one thing to hear about the Tarkine, another to actually watch it unfold from the deck.

Have you made it to Lovers Falls yet? 😍

It is one of the most popular experiences at Corinna, and one of the few you cannot reach by road. The only way in is by water, paddling about an hour downstream along the Pieman River, roughly four to five kilometres through ancient rainforest. At the end, a short walk up the famous stairway brings you to a viewing platform above the 40 metre falls.

No road, no crowds, just the river, the forest, and the sound of falling water.

The MV Arcadia II is a genuine one of a kind - the only Huon Pine river cruiser still operating anywhere in the world.

Built in 1939 and listed on the Australian Register of Historic Vessels, she has lived several lives before this one. A luxury pleasure craft in Hobart, a supply ship in New Guinea during the Second World War, a scallop boat off the east coast, then a Gordon River cruiser before she came to the Pieman in 1970.

Today she carries guests down the tannin-dark river toward the wild coast at Pieman Heads, moving at nine unhurried knots through some of the oldest rainforest on earth.

There is no better way to understand the Pieman than from her deck.

Something shifts at Corinna in September.

The light lingers a little longer on the Pieman. The forest floor softens. The first of the season’s growth pushes up through the leaf litter, and the whole place seems to exhale after a long, still winter.

Spring in the takayna/Tarkine is quiet, unhurried, and worth the journey.

There are a handful of places in Australia where you can genuinely disconnect. No mobile reception. No Wi-Fi. No background noise of other people's agendas.

Corinna is one of them. An historic village on the Pieman River, at the edge of the takayna/Tarkine, 18 kilometres from the Southern Ocean.

Our winter deal runs June through August. Stay three nights, pay for two, booked direct. The cottages are warm. The forest is doing its quiet best work.

Not because of what you did there, necessarily. Because of what you didn't do. No phone. No signal. Nothing calling you somewhere else.

The takayna/Tarkine is one of the most fungi-rich environments on the planet. You just need to look down.

The takayna/Tarkine is home to Tasmanian Devils free of facial tumour disease. Spotted-tail quolls moving through the understorey. Platypus in the Pieman River at dawn, if you are still enough and early enough.

White-bellied sea eagles nesting along the river. Azure kingfishers near the barge crossing in the early morning. Pademelons on the lawn at dusk, unbothered.

There is no zoo here. No timetable. Just a place that has been left mostly alone, and the wildlife that comes with that.
