Well, coming into winter it is usually a timely reminder about fire safety around the house. After 2 House fires in Cootamundra in the last 4 days, it is certainly is a timely reminder to check your smoke alarms to ensure they are working.
Ensure heaters are serviced, chimney’s cleaned. Electrical equipment such as dryers are serviced and cleaned after each use.

Here’s our recap of 2025!!!
Cootamundra currently has 14 dedicated fire fighters, with a total of 167 years service.
We currently have 5 keen applicants in the recruitment process.
2025 again proved to be a record breaking year with 214 calls for the year.
* Average of one call every 40 hours.
* Or 4 calls per week
* Busiest month - December with 29 incidents
* Quietest month - June with 11 incidents
* Busiest day of the week - Mondays with 39 incidents
* 67% of our calls occurred between 12pm and midnight
* 16% of our calls were to incidents involving fire
* 5 building fires
* On numerous occasion’s helping our neighbouring Fire and Rescue stations including Temora, Gundagai, Harden, Young and Boorowa
* Range of calls included, building fires, yard fires, grass fires, bush fires, flooding, downed power lines, motor vehicle accidents, persons trapped motor vehicle accidents, Automated Fire Alarms, domestic smoke alarms, medical access emergency, assist ambulance, assist police, animal rescue.
Not to mention the opening of our new $2.5 million renovated fire station in July.

Yesterday marked an achievement that 266 Cootamundra has not seen since 1971 when Captain Fred Holder achieved the same milestone.
Current Captain Les Carr has achieved the milestone of 45 years service, joining as a young 22 year old in 1981, it safe to say Les has served his community every single day in those 45 years!
Nothing short of inspirational!
