Brace yourselves...Winter's coming ❄️❄️❄️
🚨Check those smoke alarms today! 🚨

On this day 20 years ago, NSW made smoke alarms mandatory in every home.

Two decades on, the law still stands. Working smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test them monthly and replace them every 10 years.

At yesterday's ANZAC day ceremony, 263 marched under the leadership of new Captain, Nick Moon. This year marked a slight changing of the guard, as our former Captain embarkes on a new journey.
It is an honor to be part of the ANZAC day march with current and former fighters, along side other emergency services.

The Rural Fire Service has advised that the total fire ban in place for the Monaro Alpine region will continue into tomorrow, Saturday the 10th of January, and that the fire danger rating has been updated to "
"Extreme".

The Monaro is expecting high winds, in conjunction with high temperatures and low humidity.

Please remain vigilant and report any fires to "000" immediately.ce

A Total Fire Ban will be in place tomorrow, Saturday 10 January, for Greater Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Far South Coast, Greater Hunter, Monaro Alpine, Southern and Central Ranges and the Southern Slopes. Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast across much of the state, increasing the fire danger.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens. Report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

💨💨 As you have probably seen today, the large bush fire burning near the Murray River within Victoria is currently pushing smoke across a broad area of south-eastern NSW, including the Snowy Monaro area. For the latest fire information, visit the Hazards Near Me app.

A TOTAL FIRE BAN will also be in place tomorrow, Friday 9 January, for the Eastern and Southern Riverina, Southern Slopes and Monaro Alpine areas. This means from 00:00 to 23:59 on Friday 9 January 2026 you must follow Total Fire Ban restrictions to help reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading.

🔥 What this means:

Under a Total Fire Ban you must not do the following unless you have a specific exemption from Fire + Rescue NSW:
• Light or maintain any fires in the open air (including campfires and fire pits).
• Use fire-producing tools like solid-fuel barbecues (e.g., wood or charcoal) — these are banned; gas barbecues may only be used with strict safety measures (water on hand, supervised at all times).
• Carry out welding, grinding, gas cutting, or similar ‘hot works’ in the open without an exemption.

Take action now. Know your fire risk and decide what you will do if fire threatens and weather conditions deteriorate. Report any unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

With thanks to the legends at Cooma Ambulance, drill tonight involved a great refresher of all things Ambulance NSW.

As a Fire and Rescue service in a small community, we're often asked to assist our local paramedics. In-fact it's one of our most common emergency responses.

From driving the ambulance to assisting with more serious medical emergencies, or even just additional hands, the inter-agency cooperation is what makes our small communities tick.

We love working with our local paramedic hero's, and can't thank Scott enough for giving up his time to come and train with us tonight.
