TEENS ONLY !!! CBCA Shadow Judging at Litchfield Library for Youth

Want to read great novels written for youth?
Like the idea of being social, along with your books?
Do you think your voice should count?

If you love to read and like the idea of a group of like-minded teenagers getting to vote on the 2026 winning book, this could be what you've been looking for.

The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has been running the awards since 1946 - yes that is 80 years - and the Shadow Judging groups enable young people to have their say on what content should win. This library-based group will:
- have access to the six novels from the "Older Readers" category
- hang out, snack and discuss their thoughts on the books
- put in their vote at beginning of August
- take home one of these titles, for completing their mission

We love that our partnership with Taminmin College and students continues. The "Students vs Seniors" intergenerational program provides an easy format that helps overcome ageism for both generations and develops ageless friendships in our community. National Reconciliation Week 2026

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The library has plenty of books that can help us build empathy and a better understanding of others' lives or perspectives. And loads of amazing, talented Indigenous authors and illustrators in the collection, ready for you to check out.

Thank you to everyone that was a part of National Simultaneous Storytime for "Luna Roo - the kangaroo baller". A gorgeous book about courage, self-belief and teamwork, plus a bunch of Aussie Animal faves in the mix. We were 1 of 16,000 locations and 2 MILLION people reading Luna Roo today.
