WATERFORD ENTRY STATEMENT

For years, the Waterford Entry Statement (off Manning Road) provided a sense of community pride and place for the good folk of Waterford. What many residents might not know, is this was located on private land, which was fenced off (pictured).

A petition was tabled at the last Council Meeting asking the City to commission a new Entry Statement.

I asked a question at part 2 of the adjourned council meeting (Wednesday night) – on if funding for this can be considered as part of the 2025/26 Budget process. The answer was yes.

I’ll continue working with my council colleagues and city staff to make this happen, and bring back the Waterford Entry Statement.

Great to try out new local Drasko's Hot Chicken this week.

They’re one of the new additions to the recently revamped local Village Green shops in Waterford – check it out.

While I was a regular at the previous tenant – Malaysian diner Kitchen Inn Express, I’m very happy the shop-front wasn’t empty too long and Drakso’s quickly filled the void.

Well done Lease Equity for securing such a great restaurant.

Another Council year capped off - this time at 11.30pm on Tuesday night with a mammoth 5.5hr meeting! I want to belatedly congratulate my newly elected colleagues: Councillors Houweling, Lees, Raison and Russell (pictured below with the Mayor at our swearing in ceremony in October). I also thank Crs Nevard, Cridland, Coveney and Choy for their dedication, collegiality and service over the previous term.

-FROM THE ARCHIVE: REFLECTING WITH GRATITUDE-

As my 3rd election campaign for my seat on Council comes to a close with election night tomorrow, I wanted to reflect on the journey.

Every 2 years when a new council is sworn in after elections, we have a Council group photo (think school photos but with business attire). Below are four photos/four council groups I have been part of over my past 8 years. I thank all my colleagues past and present for their commitment to public service. Councillor Ken Manolas' absence has been particularly difficult (RIP Ken).

From being a brash fresh-faced 21 year old, to serving as Deputy Mayor for four years, and now being the equal second-longest serving elected member - I am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to serve our community.

I have a lot left to offer Council. I am hopeful for re-election tomorrow night – and will try to post vote count updates.
(PS - not too late to vote, contact me if you need more info).

Self-confessed Election nerd update - RECORD TURNOUT IN MANNG WARD.
Voter turnout numbers trickling in from the WA Electoral Commission - and Manning Ward is leading the way! Highest turnout of all South Perth Council Wards so far, and one of the highest of any Perth Metro Ward. It's still under 23% - lets see if we can pass 35% by election day.
Still plenty of time to re-elect the experienced voice you trust and post your vote in.

I NEED YOUR SUPPORT - VOTE NOW - RE-ELECT D'SOUZA
During my drive into the City this morning along Manning Road, I noticed one of my signs removed (again), so I pulled over and hammered it in again. This is nearly the 10th time this has happened, so important to call this out. To the geniuses doing this - know I have supporters across every inch of the Manning Ward who happily volunteer their CCTV recordings to me.

VOTE NOW - RE-ELECT OUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR
Productive weekend doorknocking with Team D'Souza getting flyers out (thought I'd have a bit of fun on the campaign trail with ordering the custom D'Souza tees - yes, fully self funded). Thanks to all hosting yard signs, and positive engagement on the doors.

I’ve spent the past 8 years serving our community with independence and diligence. From getting the budget back to surplus to fighting against overdevelopment - we’ve achieved a lot together and I’m proud to stand by my track record.

But there's more I want to achieve for our community. I would be honoured to once again be entrusted with your vote.

BEING ACCOUNTABLE AND TRANSPARENT

Last night I fronted the Manning Candidate Forum organised by the Salter Point Community Group, as I have for the past two elections I have faced. Manning is the only Ward to have such a forum.

✅I outlined my track record of delivery (Manning Bike Track, Dome Cafe, Redmond Stairs, CCTV rebates, finalisation of underground power + more).
✅I answered questions on a range of topics, including the Challenger Reserve Masterplan. This presents a great opportunity to level up old sporting facilities in Manning.
✅I articulated my vision to continue to focus on the basics of responsible financial management. This enables council to fund projects (from potholes to bike tracks) and invest in local clubs.

Thank you to the SPCG for hosting and to Wayne Smith and the mighty Manning Rippers for the venue and bar.

IT’S OFFICIAL – I’M RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION!

Last week I filed my nomination with the WA Electoral Commission to seek a 3rd term on Council.

It’s truly been an honour and privilege to represent you on Council for the past 8 years.

I’m proud of my Track Record on:
✅delivering local projects
✅fighting against over-development
✅restoring our budget to surplus and NEVER voting for rates to rise beyond CPI.

I’m running again because I love our area and have a lot more to offer our community. Thank you to all who've reached out in the past few weeks with your words of support - it means a lot!
