A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
• Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
• Public health emergencies
• Biosecurity incidents
• Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.

In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

Today we celebrate the incredible mums, step-mums, grandmothers, and mother figures who keep our community strong 💐

From all of us at Colac Fire Brigade, thank you for the care, resilience, and quiet strength you show every single day. Whether you’re on the trucks, behind the scenes, or supporting from home, your impact never goes unnoticed.

To the mums in our brigade who balance family life with answering the call — you’re nothing short of remarkable 🚒❤️

Wishing you all a safe, happy, and well-deserved Mother’s Day.

🚑🔥 One Year of Fire Medical Response 🔥🚑

Yesterday (30th April) marked 12 months since the Colac Fire Brigade began Fire Medical Response (FMR), and what a year it’s been.

In that time, our dedicated volunteers have responded to 16 medical calls, standing ready alongside Ambulance Victoria to support the community when it matters most.

From early mornings to late nights, our members have stepped up, bringing not just skills and training, but compassion and care to every call.

We’re incredibly proud of this milestone and the role our brigade continues to play in keeping our community safe.

👏 A huge thank you to our volunteers for their commitment, and to the community for your ongoing support.

Here’s to continuing to serve, respond, and be there when you need us. 💙

Proud to have stood together.

Today, members of the Colac Fire Brigade took part in the ANZAC Day march, attended the 11am service, and laid a wreath in honour of those who have served and sacrificed.

From the early morning start through to the final moments of reflection, it has been a day that means a great deal to our brigade — a chance to show our respect, remember the fallen, and stand alongside our community.

While most of the town was still wrapped in darkness, our crew was already up and moving.

From 5am this morning, members of the Colac Fire Brigade were on the tools, firing up the BBQs and cooking breakfast for the Colac RSL Sub-Branch Inc. and community attending the Dawn Service.

It’s a small way for us to give back and show our respect to those who have served — keeping the spirit of mateship alive, one bacon and egg roll at a time.

We hope everyone enjoyed their breakfast.

Lest We Forget. 🌅🔥

Today, we pause to remember.

On this ANZAC Day, the Colac Fire Brigade honours the courage, sacrifice, and mateship of all those who have served, and those who continue to serve our country.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Their spirit lives on in the way we stand shoulder to shoulder in our own community — in times of need, in times of challenge, and in moments that call for strength and unity.

Lest We Forget.
